I'll Be
She loved the color of his eyes, electric blue and full of so many things. He always schooled his features so well, but she could always see his attitude in his eyes. She could see his anger, his frustration, his mischievousness, and his love. It was the love in his eyes that stole her breath. She returned that love. In the two years since they started working together, she had fallen in love with his gruffness, his sarcasm, and with him in general. She didn't care that there was such a large age gap between them, only that he was in her life.
"Kate." He said softly, bringing her attention back to the present.
"Yeah?"
"Go home. You've been staring into space for the last hour."
"I need to finish this."
"Finish it, then go home. You're exhausted."
"Look who's talking." She muttered.
"I'll go when you do, Agent Todd."
"Let's go then." She gathered her gear and waited patiently as he did the same. They entered the elevator together and started down. Gibbs halted the elevator, half way down to the garage. She looked up at him in confusion, but the look in his eyes told her all she needed to know. She recognized what she'd been looking for in him. He gave her that smile she loved to see so much, the one she'd first seen on Air Force One. He held his arms opened to her and she stepped into him, nestling her head under his chin. She breathed deep, inhaling his scent of sawdust, coffee, and male. She loved his scent.
"Any reservations about us?" He asked.
"No, you?"
"Only the age difference."
"I'll be better when I'm older, you know."
"I know. I love you Katie."
"I love you too Jethro."
"Let's go home."
The strands in your eyes that color them wonderful
Stop me and steal my breath
And emeralds from mountains thrust toward the sky
Never revealing their depth
Tell me that we belong together
Dress it up with the trappings of love
I'll be captivated
I'll hang from your lips
Instead of the gallows of heartache that hang from above
I'll be your crying shoulder
I'll be loves suicide
I'll be better when I'm older
I'll be the greatest fan of your life
