Similarities
Lets talk about the Holmes brothers. Sherlock is smart. Mycroft is smarter. Mycroft is seven years older than Sherlock. Mycroft overshadows Sherlock in intelligence.
Now lets talk about Nikola Tesla and...Dane Tesla? Yes. Nikola had an older brother. Here are the similarities. Nikola is smart. Dane is smarter. Dane is seven years older than Nikola. Dane overshadows Nikola in intelligence. The only difference is that the elder brother died at the age of twelve.
Here is the idea. Dane Tesla never dies. When Nikola was five and Dane was twelve, Dane was riding on one of the families horses. The horse threw him off and he died from his injuries. Nikola said that his elder brother was 'gifted to an extraordinary degree'. After the death of his elder brother, his parents reminisced over his achievements, making Nikola's seem dull in comparison. So the idea is that in some alternate fictional reality, Dane never dies and the Holmes Brothers meet the Tesla Brothers. Here is one more thing to think about. Nikola said that a large part of why he invented was to try and live up to the memory of his elder brother. At many times he felt that he could never live up to him, even though he was dead. It is possible that if Dane Tesla never died, Nikola would never have gone down the path of inventing. Nikola is the reason that we have most of today's technology. Because his brother died, you have your computer. Because his brother died, I'm able to send you this. One more thing to think about. Nikola implied that he felt insignificant in comparison to his elder brothers intelligence. If Dane had never died and if he went down the path of invention as Nikola did, what would he have come up with? Part of the appeal of this idea, I believe, is that the first pair of brothers are fictional, but the second pair of brothers actually existed. I never knew Nikola had an elder brother until I bought the book titled 'TESLA, the life and times of an electric messiah.'
