Between What's Right and What You Want

He watched her hand him the crappy click pen. Crappy.

Not professional or metal and heavy.

It was one of those cheap capped black pens that you buy in the plastic bag packages; the Papermate Write Bros. pen.

He pursed his lips, trying to hide his slight anger and a w k w a r d n e s s. He took the pen from her hands, without snatching it.

She knew that this was done. It was time to just let this go.

Because she didn't love him anymore, and he didn't love her.

So why stay?

They fight everyday. They fought this morning, even after they were ready for this to be done.

He signed his name quickly on the divorce papers, showing no emotion.

Because this didn't h u r t him. She didn't hurt him anymore. He could frankly care less about her now.

He loved her, yes, but it was time to let her go. That love was small.

And he couldn't remember her. He couldn't remember why he would love her now. He knew why he loved her then, she was amazing then.

But…she's so… not the same, so frankly he can't love what she's not.

Yea, they were in love o n c e.

But that love built up with pure hatred in the marriage. Not the little playful hate that they had when they went out.

No p u r e hatred, as in they couldn't stand to look at each other.

He was just glad that they didn't have any kids or anything at all to take care of. He knew that it was only six months into their marriage.

But did they even want to be married in the first place?

He remembered when he first asked her out. Blushing and all, and they were all c u t e s y.

He even wondered at times what split them apart. They were p e r f e c t for each other… at the time. One thing's for sure… not anymore. He knew that.

She knew that she loved him.

And she still does. But, it was one of those things where they are your first love, and you don't really love them anymore. It was confusing logic, she knew that. But it didn't feel right anymore. Their love was already gone. Her love was

A L R E A D Y G O N E.

Being with him…was so alienated to her. And it should feel right. Being in your husband's arms is supposed to feel great.

But it's not anymore. It did at first for her. She wanted to be married to him.

But when he asked, everything seemed a little f o r c e d.

Like they had to get married.

That they were supposed to be married to each other.

It wasn't what they wanted.

No this is what was planned.

It was the logical thing for him to do, but not the right thing.

"G o o d b y e, Sonny." He said standing up and looking at her for a second.

She nodded, accepting his goodbye. "Bye, Chad."

And he walked to the door, picking up his suitcase, knowing that this was

N O S U R P R I S E.
