No Turning Back

Disclaimer: Descendants is property of Disney Channel. I make no claim to own the characters, and have only written this with love for Descendants. Thank you.

A/N: I wrote this before I went back and watched the movie again, so I wrote this for during the "If Only" reprise. However, that was actually before Family Day, so my apologies. It can still make sense outside of the reprise, showing more of the emotional dilemma of Evie specifically in pursuing new passions versus obeying her mother. Enjoy!

Evie kept replaying the events from today in her head.

You're nothing but a gold digger and a cheat!

Chad was right. Evie knew he was. All of her mother's talk of finding a prince with a big castle... all it made her was a gold digger. Her mother and her teachers from Dragon Hall would be so proud of her for flirting with all of the princes like Chad and cheating with her magic mirror. So why did she feel so awful hearing Chad call her and her friends out on Family Day? On the isle, what Chad said would have been a compliment... but it still hurt to hear him say it.

She felt the worst about Doug. He had believed in her. For the first time, someone had thought she was more than just a pretty face, more than just the Evil Queen's daughter. And she had failed him. Not only was he there when Chad called out Evie's flaws, but Chad fell on him when Evie gassed him with the perfume from Mal. There was nothing better for her to do then but grab her friends and run. How could he ever trust her again. Why would he want to? Later, he had tried to talk to Evie, but Chad stopped him. It was for the best anyway. Fixing things with Doug would just make tomorrow even harder.

Evie looked at the envelope she had found pushed under the door when she and Mal got back from Jay and Carlos's room. "Evie" was written meticulously on the front. Of course she recognized the handwriting as Doug's. Even though she was curious to what he would say, she had been scared to open it. Curiosity finally got the better of her, and she quietly tore open the envelope, pulling out a simple white card. "I'm sorry." was all it said. Funny that Doug thought he had anything to be sorry for. Or not so funny. She sighed placing the card on her night stand to look at her chemistry test from the day Doug defended her in class. She had actually gotten a B+, without the mirror. She could be smart. She could be more than just a princess or a wife. And Doug believed in her, too.

Her mom would never stand for this. She could only hope Doug wouldn't be hit too hard when the villains took over. He wasn't a prince, so maybe they wouldn't hurt him. Evie knew she was kidding herself, but it was all she could do. There was no turning back now.
