Smack.

Fecking alarm. Who invented the stupid things? I was still tired!

I thought about what day it was today. Saturday. Mmm, that was good. I liked Saturdays. Saturdays meant getting up late and having a stupidly long shower and then finally wondering down for breakfast and lazily throwing a bowl of stale coco-pops together. So, it made me wonder why on earth I had set the alarm for freakishly early in the morning.

I sat bolt right up in bed, remembering why I had set the alarm for this Saturday. I also remembered why this Saturday should be way better than all the other Saturdays I had talked about so lovingly before.

I was getting married today.

I leapt out of bed (surprisingly no longer tired) and went to wake up my best friends in the other beds of our huge hotel room we had booked for the night before. Cher, Kerry and Becky were my bridesmaids and all my maids-of-honours – I couldn't decide! Last night we had all stayed up pretty late, too excited to sleep, and just talked about the wedding. When, finally, we turned in, I secretly popped a sleeping pill, knowing it would be necessary. That would explain the extreme tiredness this morning, but, you know, I soon got over it!

'OI! Get up, you lazy arses; you need to help me get ready!' I yelled at them in half annoyance that they weren't up yet and half hysterics for, well, obvious reasons. I wacked all of them over the head, twice, with my pillow and they began to stir.

It took all of 15 minutes, a few more pillow thumps and a squirt of water in Cher's face for them to rise but eventually we were all sat in front of the mirror, grinning stupidly at each other.

'Ok…what do you want to start with first?' We had all had showers last night, to give us more time and we had got our nails done in french manicures.

'I think we should get dressed, then do our hair and make-up, cause if we do it the other way round we would spoil all our hard work by dragging material over our head, yeah?' We all nodded at Becky's suggestion.

Becky was my first friend that I had at Hogwarts. We were both muggleborns and we met on the train and had clicked instantly. Kerry had joined us a few hours later when we found out she was sharing a dormitory with us. Cher had moved in 5th year from Beaubaton's school and had become friends with us. She had also become more than friends with Sirius in her 2nd week, breaking another girl's heart in the process. Surprisingly, they had stuck it out for a whole year and a half which was a major (major, major, major…) record for Sirius. He claims she was his first and last love and that when she broke up with him she broke his heart too. But by then she had moved on to some random ravenclaw, and he had no choice but to get over her.

(Obviously) I was priority, so I sat back and got a bit of R and R while my friends mucked around with my face. I had asked them to surprise me with my make-up; Becky's sister, Shelle, was a beautician so Bex gave orders out of a book, Shelle had given her and the other's obeyed. I had my eyes closed for most of it (the after effects of the sleeping pill) as I listened to their meaningless chatter about the wedding.

As I sat up so they could do my hair, my Aunt waltzed in. It was about 11:30 and the wedding was starting at 1:00. My Aunt Stacey was like my substitute mother. My parents had passed away when I was in 6th year – consequence of a car crash. Cliché, I know, but still true. I had lived with Stacey since then and I loved her like I loved my own mother. She was in a stunning pale pink number, flowing to the floor, wearing one of those wedding accessories you put in your hair. Her eyes filled up when she saw me.

'Oh, honey! You look so beautiful, sweetheart. Your girlfriends have obviously worked hard!' She awkwardly hugged me around hot curling tongs that Kerry was singing my hair with. 'And the dress! It looks even more amazing on you than it did off you!' She smiled a teary smile.

I was in love with my dress too. It was a simple halter-neck, a satin, tight-fitting dress until my hips where it flowed elegantly to the floor. There were jewels from the top to the waist. It was the 57th dress I tried but when I found it, it was perfect.

Stacey stayed for a few more minutes and then left my girls to get on with my hair. They were wearing floor length, satin dresses in a deep red colour. I had let them decide between them what they were going to wear, and when they showed me, I planned the colour theme of the wedding around the dresses.

A yellow limo was coming to pick us girls up at 12:45, and also Remus who was walking me down the aisle. Since I didn't have a father but I still wanted things as traditional as possible I decided to have the next best thing: a friend. I would have picked Sirius as he was the guy I got on with second best after James but James had already claimed him as best man, so I went with Remus. If I thought about it, it made sense: we were the trouble-makers and Remus was our super-strict dad who always did his homework and revision.

12:45 loomed closer and I started to get a bit nervous. At twenty to one I had to sit down on the bed and try to pull myself together. Kerry, who was applying the last bits of make-up, saw me in the reflection of the mirror.

'Guys…guys, I think our bride's getting a little cold feet,' she said. They all crouched down in front of me. Cher started. 'Come on, Lily, James is waiting for you at the alter. You don't want to let him down, do you? Eh?' she shook my shoulder lightly.

'No,' I gasped, clasping my hands together to stop them shaking.

Bex tucked a bit of hair behind my ear. 'It's alright, hon. You've been looking forward so much to this day and now it's finally arrived you're going to back out? That's not the Lily I know,' she said disapprovingly. I mentally commended her for her tactics. If there is one thing I hate is not being seen as confident.

'And anyway,' Kerry stated. 'If you back out now, think how much money you just wasted,' she said matter-of-factly.

Shelle came over. 'Calm down, babe. You're gonna sweat all your make-up off, otherwise and that would not be good.'
