Family ties

He had no idea how it had happened. One moment he'd been walking calmly around in London, visiting the Powell Estate, seeing the few other places in the city where he'd been with Rose. The next he was running from some mad aliens with a young girl he'd no idea who was in tow.

Turning around a corner they finally came to the place where he'd parked the TARDIS; racing towards the box he beckoned for the girl to follow him. After all he couldn't quite leave her to the aliens.

"Wow. I feel like I've stepped into one of my grandma's stories!"

"What?" could she be the granddaughter of one of his earlier companions? That would really be brilliant.

"My grandma always tells stories about travelling in a blue box called the TARDIS with her grandfather. I'm named after her by the way. My name's Susan!"

Okay. Not what he'd expected. That girl wasn't just any of his earlier companion's granddaughter. She was Susan's! Memory floated through him as he thought of his first companion who'd also been his granddaughter. He'd left her on earth with the young David.

"I'm the Doctor!"

"That's what he used to call himself! Do you think we're related?"

Yes they were. But how do you tell a girl that you're her great-great-grandfather when you only look to be in your thirties?

"Erm… do you remember anything, any details, of your grandma's stories?"

"Are you kidding? I remember everything! They were time lords from the planet Gallifrey. Travelled with two teachers called Barbara and Ian. She told me that time lords has two hearts. And that instead of dying they… regenerate…" stopping her speech she looked at him completely flabbergasted. "You… you're… my…"

"I'm your great-great- grandfather! Man I feel old." He shot her a smile.

"This is really cool. I mean… if you want me to come with you…"

"Of course I do! Hey… you're my great-great-granddaughter. Let's not tell… they wouldn't believe us anyway!"

Flashing a smile to match his she looked directly at him.

"Shouldn't we go out stopping those aliens?"
