'AN OLD KING'
It came towards him faster then a train, straighter then tracks. Green clashed oddly against the air, giving it an almost white tinge at the edge.
Remus Lupin had but split second to analyse death. He knew he would die for the greater good, he was almost glad. But no he was not. Death came to him when he was finally happy, happier then even his childhood innocents that had flashed by all to quickly.
The times he had begged for death, all the times he wished for an end, death never came.
It was his first fall moon truly alone. Even when he had gone into hiding there had always been at least one member of his pack. Last night had been the death of Lily and James and today had been the betrayal of Sirius Black.
The moonlight fell through the closed shutters, barely seeping through the cracks. Convulsions rode through Remus' body, forcing him to his knees. His hands tore at his chest leaving deep gashes where his nails had changed to claws. A deep howl rose from his lungs, rocking the very supports of the room.
'WHY!' He called to the black night. 'Just let there be a end.' Pleading, Remus gave way to heavy sobs. Then allowing the wolf to take control, sobs turned into
mournful howls, breaking the silence of the night.
After years of alone, Remus had been offered the chance to come home. To Hogwarts. Although he had lost his family it felt like the very foundation he walked on was built by the Marauders. As a child he had become a king of the castle. His brothers ruling next to him, holding the throne until some prince came along. That year he walked the halls he had once ruled, only this time alone or so it had seemed. That night his brother rejoined him and happiness was once more a factor in Remus' life. Fate then had his brother taken once more.
Harry's mournful cry had alerted him to the fight that still ragged on, even though all others had spoken their last curses for the night. In the middle of the room fought two cousins, related only by blood. Sirius, midnight hair flying had taunted Bellatrix, his jeers flying as fast as his spells. Round in circles they danced, neither daring to let up.
A deep chuckle rose from the back of Sirius' throat. Still laughing he asked, 'is that the best you can do?'
A smile still sketched on his features, Sirius had fallen through the veil, thrown backwards by the force of the curse hitting his chest.
That time had been hard, he was an old king, and alone in a world ruled by a younger man. He had first met his Dora before Sirius' death, but Sirius had pulled them together by the love they had shared for him. Pulling together in a time of need Remus had not once again found happiness but true love.
She walked down the isle, brown hair pulled up elegantly on the top of her head. The soft white dress she wore complemented her petit form nicely. It had been a small reception only for their closest, most trusted friends. Speaking his vowels, Remus placed a simple gold band around her finger, binding her to him with all the love he had ever known.
The days after the wedding had been filled with battles. Fighting for a better life for his newly wed wife and son, Remus through himself into fights with a vengeance. The last fateful night he had ordered Dora to stay home with Teddy, begging her to keep him save. Dora had chosen to disregard his pleas, charging into a battle she knew she had to fight, to fight for a better life.
She had fought by his side, throwing more curses he could even dream about. She had been shouting at young Fred for him to watch his back, unaware that no one guarded her own.
Watching her fall, tears sprung from his eyes, her name tearing from his lungs. Turning his eyes back to the battle, a green light hit his chest.
Please tell me what you think.
