I own none of the characters, but I leave it to you to figure out who they are. They could belong to Disney.
Stalled in the SnowHow could he do this to me? I've known him almost all my life. He's my best friend. He's always been there, taking care of me. Now everything's changed.
It was a day trip, skiing in the mountains. She came along. I thought it was no big. After all, she was my best girlfriend. Besides, I wasn't really worried. None of the girls really paid attention to him. Except Yori. I worried about her because she thought about him like I do. She knew what was inside. But she left, so I was safe.
We spent the day on the slopes. The weather was perfect, the snow was perfect, and we really enjoyed ourselves. Sure, he's clumsy, and we did end up buried in the snow a few times, but you learn to take the bad with the good. After the slopes closed, we had a good meal at the lodge and set out for home. We were in a bit of a hurry because there was a storm coming in and we wanted to beat it home. I told him to stop for gas, but did he listen? Of course not.
We were only a few miles from the lodge when the snow started. It slowed us down, and with the four-wheel drive engaged his old jeep drank gas like a camel after a week in the desert. We got maybe 30 miles down the road before the car stopped dead. Out of gas.
There we were, the three of us, stuck on the side of the road in a snowstorm. The radio said the storm could last a couple days. No gas of course means no heater so we couldn't stay in the car. Wade found us a place to stay just a couple miles further down the road, so we pushed the Jeep off to the side, marked it so the plows wouldn't hit it, then got our skis off the roof and set out down the road.
The place wasn't the Ritz, but they had two rooms for us. He and I took one, and she took the other. I was exhausted and went right to sleep. In the middle of the night, a strange noise woke me. I sat up, looked around, and saw the connecting door to her room was open. Silently, I walked over and looked in. Clothes were thrown on the floor, his and hers. Everything. They were together in the bed, wrapped around each other like a pair of snakes, she with a contented smile on her face and he with a big smirk. I may be a bit naive, but there is no doubt in my mind what happened.
My best friend and my best girlfriend. Who would have imagined? Looking back, I can see it. The signs were there for a long time, but I just didn't realize it. We had been drifting apart and I didn't notice. He seemed distracted sometimes. He started paying attention to how he looked. He started going places without me. Now it had happened. It was too late.
I didn't want to be there any more, so I waited until I heard the plows coming down the road. Then I went outside and hitched a ride back to Middleton. I had to drown my sorrows so I came here. So set me up again, Ned, and keep it coming until I pass out. And make the cheese a double. Why is the mole rat always the last to know?
