a.n. Here's a quickie story I wrote yesterday. I got the idea about 2 or 3 days ago. I thought it was a good idea to put it up today. Sorry if it's kinda bad but I really wanted to write it and I wasn't too sure how to do it. I might put up one more part today if I have time cuz I had 2 parts in mind for this. Anyways, hope you enjoy! But I do not own anything Star Warsy. George Lucas does. I only borrow it for my own amusement.
Independence Day
It was hard to believe that one year ago today the Battle of Endor had occurred. It was hard to believe that it had been one whole year since the Emperor was killed and the Empire had fallen. One year ago, defeat for the Rebellion had seemed almost inevitable. The Emperor and his troops, despite the destruction of the Death Star nearly four years prior, proved to be virtually indestructible. The Rebels had fought bravely for their lives in that last epic, dramatic battle before they finally managed to achieve victory. Once the defense shield had been lowered, the small group of Rebel pilots was able to blow the reactor of the second Death Star, resulting in the destruction of not only a dangerous super weapon, but the deaths of the Emperor and Darth Vader as well. That day marked the birth of the New Republic and the end of an oppressive regime. All throughout the galaxy, sentient beings cheered for the Rebels and celebrated the downfall of the terrible Empire. The victorious forces celebrated with the tribe of Ewoks who were instrumental in the success the Rebellion achieved that day. Now today, the heroes of the Rebellion, those who fought in that epic battle that day, gather together to reflect back on that important battle.
The city-planet of Coruscant was covered in darkness, with only the twinkling lights of the multitude of buildings casting light. Millions of beings were out and about waiting, watching. High up in what was once the old Senate apartments, a small celebration was going on. The various party guests were mingling with each other and chatting happily, exchanging stories about events about the past year. Everyone attending played some significant role in the defeat of the Empire. There was Mon Mothma, leader of the Rebellion, now Chief-of-State of the New Republic; Ackbar, Alliance admiral; Wedge Antilles, Rebel pilot; Lando Calrissian, New Republic general. Of course, no celebration party would be complete without the most well known of Alliance heroes: The droids R2-D2 and C-3PO, Chewbacca, Han Solo, Leia Organa, and Luke Skywalker. This sextet of heroes, some of the most famous heroes of all time, was the face of the New Republic. Without them, the victory would have been hard to come by. So tonight, on perhaps the most celebratory of all nights, these six great heroes were among the other victors, celebrating the anniversary of the defeat of the Empire.
As the night wore on, the partygoers got quieter, waiting in anticipation for what was coming. Soon enough, everyone was gathered around the window, watching and waiting just like those citizens waiting around outside. All at once, the sky was lit up in a rainbow of colors as fireworks exploded in the sky. The citizens below cheered and celebrated, much like they had done one year ago. Those watching from the Senate apartments looked on in both awe and reverence, remembering all of their friends and comrades who had died over the years so all of them could be standing here today, celebrating.
The fireworks exploded in the sky and the people celebrated. As the commotion died down, everyone took a minute of silence to remember everything that had happened that brought them all to this point in their lives. Everyone together remembered the heroes lost, the families torn, and the lives destroyed and all silently thanked the stars and the Force for allowing them to celebrate this night, this Independence Day.
