TITLE:          Almost without u

AUTHOR:          doms1luv

RATING:          PG

PAIRING:          Max/Alec (duh!)

SPOILER:          Harbor Lights (end of episode – bit of AU)

SUMMARY:          I was SO mad that Alec wasn't in this episode,

So I was really pleased to see I wasn't the only one. Inspired by Donna Lynn's "Contemplate This" All M/A lovers should agree that he should've been in that episode, even M/L fans too come to think of it. This should have been in it at the end don't cha think?

A/N:              My first fan fiction so please be kind!!! I think Alec should have

Been the one at Max and OC's place after the incident. This is

Set when she's back at home so just use your imagination and

Let's say for arguments sake that Alec was the one who save

Her…WHICH IS THE WAY IT SHOULD HAVE HAPPENDED!!!

ALMOST WITHOUT U

"You okay?"

"Yeah, I'm cool. A couple of bruises, cracked ribs. No biggie."

He watched as her eyes closed momentarily, his heart contracting painfully. He knew they were only kidding themselves. She'd almost died tonight but she'd been extremely lucky.

He'd been lucky.

Because in truth, he knew he wouldn't have been able to survive emotionally knowing he'd never look into those brown eyes or see her beautiful mouth curve up into that smile that sent his heart reeling with it's warmth. (Even if it wasn't directed to him most of the time.)

Her eyes opened again and she smiled slightly.

"Tired?" he asked.

"A little, yeah."

He didn't really want to leave just yet but he knew he'd be selfish to stay.

"I'll let you get your rest." He tried to fight the urge to brush her hair out of her face. But the urge won. The silky strands were soft, her skin smooth as he put it behind her ear. His fingers lingered slightly, savoring the sensation.

"Goodnight Max." he said softly.

"Goodnight."

He turned to leave and was almost at the door.

"Alec?" she asked uncertainly.

"Yeah?" he faced her again. Slowly.

She looked him in the eye.

"I owe you one. A big one. No that I can think of anything that could thank you for what you did tonight so I guess I'll have to think about it. No – actually you have to 'cause only you would know. So if there is anything I can do - " she stopped short. "I guess what I'm trying to say is 'thanks',"

Thanks.

One word and yet it meant so much more than that.

"For everything." She continued.

He walked back to the bed, almost not believing what he was hearing. He sat down on the edge facing her, watching her intently.

His staring was making her very conscious of how bad she must look and his hazel eyes were mesmerizing, the silence deafening. All of this added to her confusion and unease.

"Is this you or the medication speaking Max?" he asked cockily but deep down really needing to know. She must've sensed this.

She glanced downward, almost shyly, hesitating.

She reached for his hand and held it gently, looking at him.

"It's me."

A heartbeat passed, then another.

"I really hope it's me."

He let out the breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding and smiled, feeling closer to her than he ever had.

A/N:    So I know this probably WOULD NEVER happen, considering the

Show's cancelled and all but I'm still having withdrawal symptoms so

Humor me okay and let me know what you think. Thanks.
