just a short AU post FF13, what if Cid wasn't actually dead? very, very light CidxLight
She stood by his bed, judging silently the situation.
He was suppose to be dead. Rydgea told her so. Was personally asked to shoot him down and kill him. Something best friends should never be asked. But out of respect for his General, the Commander had done the deed.
He died in the climax of the situation.
He was suppose to be dead.
Not found as a crystal, by her no less, on the lone beach of a still recovering Bodhum.
But he was found by her. She lightly touched his crystal, struggling to connect where she saw that face before. Her answer came when the crystal melted like ice and he became a being, a barely warm body collapsing on top of her. If she wasn't a soldier, she might not have been able to get him to the hospital. But even then, she found it was a bit of a struggle. It wasn't so much that he was heavy, it was more of the fact that he was taller. It just made him a bit awkward to drag around.
But she made it. And after a long day of waiting, contacting who was left and who would care; she found that he would make it too.
He's been sleeping for the past few months. Recovery from shock and what ever drama went on with him physically and mentally. Snow and Serah already visited. Serah to see who was the man that helped her sister and lover through half the journey, and Snow to apologize to a fellow l'Cie for suffering and offer a get well soon to him.
Hope came as well, but it was just to see if he was really alive. When he saw him, he wished him well.
Sahz didn't come. Didn't know him well enough, and was helping his son get through school.
Rydgea she left alone.
Her fellow veteran GC soldier came in and just looked once at the ghost he was asked to kill, and nearly broke then and there. Never good at comforting and a little loss on what to do, she did leave him be, and waited nearby. When Rydgea came out, he looked hollow, tired, and relieved. He gave his silent thanks to her and went on his wave, calling every once a week just to see if he's improved.
Not much has changed really. Only his hair got a little longer and it didn't look like he was suffering from nightmares anymore. He usually always had this pained or scared expression, it would dim only subtly if she lightly touched his hand.
Once, when she did this, his hand came to life and tightly gripped hers.
He was still asleep, but his face has eased.
It was the first week of his third month sleeping that he finally woke.
She was contacted at work, helping Amodar with his paper work, like she used to in the old days before Cocoon's fall. The hospital phoned in and summoned her. Amodar let her go.
She went into his room as soon as she arrived, and he looked up at her, staring wide eyed, looking very confused and lost.
"Farron," he greeted with a stiff nod, his voice low and rasped.
"Raines," she returned, easing herself over and settling down next to his bed.
"How long have I..." he couldn't bring himself to finish.
"For about a two months and a week. At least, since the day I found you."
"Was I..."
"Yes."
Shakily, he looked at his hand, seeing only bare skin. His hands shook. "I don't hear him anymore," he whispered. "I don't hear that fal'Cie anymore. He's gone. The brand... gone. He's really gone. They are all really gone..." he looked at her. "Aren't they?"
"They are," she eased, taking his hand and squeezing it reassuringly. "Their gone Cid, their gone."
