Bright pink eyes gazed dreamily up at a cloudy, gray sky. The owner of those eyes was a girl who sat alone on a small bench at the playground of the Bennington school house.
"A-Alice," A small voice stuttered out from behind the lonely girl, "Please take this!" the small voice suddenly rose to a yell as a boy threw a folded piece of paper at the quite girl. She picked up the paper and looked to see if the boy was still there, which, he wasn't. Alice sighed, opened the note and immediately dropped it to the floor.
"Trash." she mumbled bitterly and glared at the note. Then, out of the blue, the school's principal made an announcement, "Go home, children. There has recently been a bomb threat from Japan. You all know very well about what they can do...so just go home and be safe..."
The principal had an eery ring to his voice that sent chills up Alice's spine. She knew about the war threats sent from Japan, and how they are taking over some parts of England. Right now, Alice was fed up with all the nonsense going on between the two countries! She groaned, jumping off the small bench and began to walk home. As she walked the secret trail in the forest that led to her house, Alice heard voices. The girl froze with the realization that the voice were speaking a different language, her eyes widened when she heard those voices come closer. Suddenly, the girl sprung into a fast sprint. Her throat felt dry after about twenty minutes of running so she decided to jog from then on. Alice could not hear the voices anymore. She smiled, and whispered only for herself to hear, "I will not die. I will not die in this war, I will die of old age. I will not die young, I promise myself and the whole world that I will not die."
"I'm home!" Alice said with a bright white smile, but her smile quickly faded once she saw the expressions on her parents face. she cocked her head to the side and raised an eyebrow. Her mother frowned as her father set down the newspaper he was reading and said, "Alice, dear, please find a good hiding place. Hide there until you hear silence, please. The Japanese announced a house check. I don't know what they're going to do, sweetheart, so it would be best if you found a good hiding spot and bring food and water supplies with you."
Alice watched as her mother broke down, tears streaming down her rosy plump cheeks. Alice wished to comfort her mother, say that everything would be alright, but Alice wasn't so sure if everything would be alright.
