For a Canadian winter, it came as no surprise that there would be a sudden onslaught of snow. This storm had been creeping upon the area of the Washington cabin for a few days now, Josh was glad to know that many of his friends who had been over had already made it home safe. Except for Sam that is.
Sam, being the only one Josh felt truly comfortable with, had stayed behind to keep him company until his parents came back home. Josh would easily admit that he was always extremely happy whenever Sam or Chris was with him, but there was something about Sam that brought her up to the most important rank in his eyes.
They hadn't always been as close as they were now. Seeing as she was his little sister's best friend, it felt weird at first to hangout with her. Eventually Josh found himself spending more and more time with the girls, dragging Chris along as often as possible to allow him the excuse that it was just a chance for everyone to visit each other. Really Josh just wanted to spend more time with her, with Sam. Each moment he spent with her made him feel at ease, and he found that discovering new things about her always brought a smile to his face.
"Ah! It's probably past my knees by now!" Sam exclaimed drawing Josh out of his thoughts and back to the present.
Sam stood in front of the large window, looking up at the sky in what could almost be described as wonder. It was as though she was witnessing a snow storm for the first time. Her amazement in all of nature had always been such a redeeming quality about Sam.
"Josh come see!" she said turning to smile at him before returning her gaze to the window. "It's so beautiful."
As Josh walked over to stand beside Sam, he felt completely at peace which was a first since the passing of his sisters. He was far more than grateful for everything Sam had ever done for him since they went missing more than a year ago. All the late nights she came to see him, all the times she held him close as he cried not saying anything but rather just being there for him. It was always more than enough for him.
"Thanks for being here." His voice came out much quieter than he expected, barely above a whisper.
Pulling on his arm as he neared her Sam said nothing, instead deciding to rest her head on his shoulder as they looked out onto the darkening shimmers of the falling snow.
Yea, this was more than enough for him.
