She thought back to all those years ago. The first time that she lost everything.
Her mother is in the man's grasp, struggling for Mikasa's life.
And she stands behind her, completely still. Uncomprehending.
Run Mikasa!
Mom..?
Hurry Mikasa!
The man slices her mother's head off and a fountain of blood sprays everywhere.
Her mom crumples to the ground, reaching for Mikasa, but she just stands there.
A couple of drops of blood land on her face and slowly drip to the floor.
If she doesn't think about it, she can convince herself that it is just rain that leaked in through the roof. Not her mother's blood, just innocent water.
The men tie her up and take her far away from her paint-splattered home (because that's all it is, paint, not blood).
If only.
The two men talk about killing and selling her like it is normal.
Mom? Dad?
She wonders why she didn't listen to her mom and run. Everything would have been different if she had.
Even though there's no point in thinking about it, she dwells because she has plenty of time, tied up on the floor.
Like a pig led to slaughter.
She is still trying to convince herself that the liquid on her face was water.
The door opens and her world tilts on its axis again.
Die!
The children save each other and the world is drenched in blood again.
These men become the first kills in what will eventually grow into a very long list.
From then on, the children thrive together in the cruel, merciless world.
A/N: I just can't stop writing about Mikasa. She's such an interesting character and her relationship with Eren has this really strange dynamic that I love.
I know that there are tense issues, but I'm keeping it the way it is. If it's a major problem, however, please tell me. I also know that this is by far not the best thing I have posted, but I can't think of a way to change it without completely rewriting it.
I'm writing and posting this on the spur of the moment, so it has not gone through my beta. All mistakes are my own.
Feedback is always appreciated and thanks for reading!
