Inside the closet, Margot could hear her fellow classmates returning from their romp on the now rain soaked planet, which merely minutes ago had been bathed in lemon-yellow sunlight. Margot, who was already a faded photograph, now was a wilted flower. The expression on her snow-white face was one of complete and utter sadness. The sadness of being denied what she so desperately desired.
The door to the closet suddenly opened, and the children stared at their classmate. They all noticed her slumped form and tear-stained face.
William, who was the cause of Margot's saddened state, opened his mouth and apologized to her. "Sorry."
Margot could hear the sincerity in the boy's voice but was having a difficult time in believing him. "No you're not." she replied.
"Yes I am. All of us are. Right?" William asked the other children.
"Yes." the children confirmed in unison. "We're really sorry."
But whether they truly regretted locking her in the closet Margot couldn't tell. For William was their leader, and whatever he said they said. Whatever William did, they did. They agreed with William on everything. And no one said no to William.
The shell of a girl stood and walked to the door without saying a word. Various children tried to block her path or apologized profusely, but Margot simply ignored them and left the classroom.
The seriously depressed child knew that she was now willing to do whatever it took to get away from the torrential rain which flowed like tears from millions of unseen eyes, flooding Venus day after day with their unending pain and sorrow.
Margot opened the large door to the outside world, and stepped out into the flood which would soon claim her life.
