Stuff in " " are thoughts. I couldn't get the same effect I wanted with italics. A new set of " " does not necessarily mean a new person is speaking. There's a reason… I'm not crazy.
The black haired hero sat alone in the dark room. Criminal reports and newspaper articles bearing Slade's name and picture surrounded him. Robin had spent countless nights shut up in his room with these same papers littering the floor. This time was different, though. For once he was not obsessing over who Slade was or what his plans were. He was obsessing over himself.
"Mysterious, clever, determined, serious," Robin pounded his fist against the table.
"I am just like Slade, aren't I?"
He had admitted to Starfire that he and the villain were alike, but that was entirely different than admitting it to himself.
"No! You said it yourself, '…there's one big difference between me and Slade. Slade doesn't have any friends.' (Teen Titans, episode- Apprentice)"
"Don't you remember, you fought against those friends, putting them in danger, just to get close to Slade."
"How far would you have gone to catch him? you had already endangered your friends and yourself. Not to mention, you stole for an that evil mastermind."
"But it was for the good of the city, right; to stop Slade once and for all."
"Or could ypu just not bear the agony of not knowing his identity? Plus I can't deny the pleasure committing crimes brought me. I enjoyed being the bad guy.
"If I'm really so much like Slade, does that mean I'm evil too?" This escaped his lips in a mumble
Robin had assured the team that he disposed of the Red X suit. That was another thing he and Slade had in common; they both lied. He walked to the opposite end of the room and slid open a panel in the wall to reveal Red X's suit. Robin reached out for the skull shaped mask.
"How easy it would be to leave all of this behind. I'll become Red X again, go far, far away from Jump City; forget about Slade…"
"Robin?" Starfire's voice was almost inaudible though the thick metal door. " I know you have been through difficult times and done many things you are ashamed of, but we are your friends. Is there really no way in which we can help?"
He drew away from the suit. That was the only thing that kept the Boy Wonder from running away from his heroic call.
"My friends still believe in me. They have forgiven me of everything. They have faith in me as their leader and their friend."
Again Starfire's voice came from the hallway. "Please let us help you, Robin"
Robin opened the door to find all four standing in the hall looking concerned.
"You already have."
I know, the ending is not the best. I could not end this thing properly to save my life. Sorry
