Time will bring the real end of our trial
One day there'll be no remnants
No trace, no residual feelings within ya
One day you won't remember me
Gray eyes looked down at brown skin, taking in every detail. The way her long brown hair sprawled around underneath her like a halo. The dark love marks marring her neck and throat. The way her bottom lip was swollen from his attention. The contrast of their skin together and how smooth hers was in comparison to his. He loved everything about Katara from the way she said his name to the look of adoration in her eyes, so intense it made his knees weak.
Making love to her was something that felt so right to him, yet so wrong at the same time. He was already promised to someone else yet here he was, involved with a woman who wasn't his fiancee. He traced a finger down the middle of Katara's bare chest and down to her stomach before trailing it over to her hip.
So right but so wrong.
He knew it, she knew it but they always met. They always found some place for them to slip away to so they could be honest about their feelings. He didn't want to let Katara go, and it seemed that Katara felt the same exact way. He let out a heavy sigh and Katara brought her hand up his face, rubbing his jaw with her thumb.
"We can't keep doing this." He said softly, his voice barely above a whisper. He was a month away from being a married man. It was bad enough he had cheated on his fiancee their whole engagement and even if she wasn't in love with Aang, it would still kill her. He had to put an end to this.
"I know... " Katara trailed off and dropped her hand. She sat up, not bothering to cover herself up. Aang had seen every inch of her body and the shyness that used to overcome her was no more. "You know I love you, right Aang?"
"Of course I do, Katara." Aang slid his hand over hers and squeezed it gently. "I love you too. But I have a duty, this is my job."
"Marriage shouldn't be a job." Tears fell quickly one after the other, hitting her legs and rolling down onto the white sheets underneath them. "We're in love. Why does the world get to decide what you want to do with your life? Where… where does that leave me, Aang? Am I supposed to spend my life alone, knowing I'll never be able to have you? Knowing I'll never love anybody more than you?" She wiped at her tears furiously.
Aang braced himself to keep himself from crying. They've had this conversation a thousand times. They both knew what the end result would be, even if they both wished they would end up together. "It hurts me too, Katara but my life isn't solely my own and... and I don't really want to argue with you. We may never get to be like this ever again. So even if we just hold each other, that would mean the world to me." He glanced over at Katara, the only sound escaping her mouth were soft sobs. This was painful for him, too. He had always seen himself getting married to Katara, having kids with her, growing old and dying with her. He knew what true love felt like, he's felt it a thousand times before.
He didn't want to leave Katara.
"I'm sorry, Katara." A tear trailed down his cheek. He placed his face in his hands and shook his head slowly. This wasn't how it was supposed to be. "I never meant to hurt you."
Two arms wrapped around him, enveloping him in warmth. Katara tilted his head up and pressed a soft kiss to his forehead and then his lips. Tears fell freely down her cheeks. "This will be our last time together, let's make the best of it."
Your face will be the reason I smile
But I will not see what I cannot have foreva
I'll always love ya, I hope you feel the same
