I'm currently hosting a Jess/Becker drabble tag on my writing Journal on Livejournal called "Just Kiss Her Already!" which was an idea sparked by this fic. You can find it here: http:/ hurricanepixie. livejournal. (excluding spaces!)

SPOILERS FOR 5x06, you have been warned!

Jess cradled Lester in her lap, EMD in her other hand. Tears rolled slowly down her face stinging the grazes those monsters had given her. She didn't know what more she could do. She wasn't prepared for this, it wasn't her job, she was Field Coordinator not a Field Operative. She'd only held one of the EMDs once before and that was during her compulsory training the first week they had come.

Her mind was blank. The man in her arms was dying.

The next thing she could compute was how she was pointing the EMD into that perfect, though slightly battered and bruised, face.

"Jess," his calm voice said. "You're okay." His gun was on the floor, his hands gentle on her face. She couldn't even think what she might look like, a man dying in her arms covered in blood that isn't just hers but his too, hair a mess. Her team leader dying. His talking to the other man. "It's okay Jess," he said again looking into her eyes and forcing her to look back at him. "You're okay." She could feel the warmth of his lips on her forehead, yet she just stared towards where the predator had come from, every breath she took shaky.

"Jessica look at me," she slowly did. "You're okay Jessica." he said rationally the look in his eye so daunting yet something in it melted her. "It's all going to be okay, Jess."

The warmth she felt was on her lips now, rendering her, even more so, unable to move.

"If you don't mind," a voice beneath them wheezed, "I'm dying here."
