An Ordinary Day
"Boone, no no, we aren't climbing on the back of the couch, you'll fall and get an owie." Jackie told him as she grabbed the mini daredevil and placed him back on the ground.
Boone shook his head no at her.
"That's right, no." Jackie told him.
Moments later Jackie glanced over and noticed Ryan was doing the exact same thing.
"Ryan, I just told Boone no." She said before she grabbed him as well.
Ryan smiled playfully at her and then crawled away from her.
Jackie glanced at the other kids who were batting a balloon around the room giggling like crazy people. Suddenly Sloan climbed on the back of the couch.
"Sloan, mommy said not to climb on there." You're one of the kids that always listens. She added silently to herself.
Surprisingly Houston and Sloan were two of the calmest and most obedient ones out of all the kids.
"Me get the balloon down mama." The little boy said as he nodded towards the kids' balloon that had gotten jammed between the back of the couch and the wall.
"Oh, I'm sorry buddy, I didn't know that's what you were doing but let mommy get it so you don't fall, and next time tell mommy and I'll get it down for you ok?" She told the sweet little boy.
"Ok mama." He replied.
Jackie got the balloon down for them and the kids were just about ready to resume playing with it when the door opened and Nick walked in.
The kids instantly forgot all about their balloon and ran at Nick.
"Hi guys." He told them with a smile, as he held onto the Thai takeout food he had brought home for dinner.
He had to put in extra hours at the lab and so he thought he'd stop and get dinner on the way home.
"Hi." He told Jackie with a smile before going into the kitchen and setting the food on the table.
"How was your day?" Jackie asked as she got up and went out into the kitchen.
"Good, long, but good."
"That's good, and thanks so much for bringing dinner home." She responded as she kissed his cheek.
"No problem." He replied.
"So Jazz, tell me, have you forgiven Santa Claus yet?" Nick asked her as he turned his attention from Jackie to the little girl.
"No." She said angrily.
Nick and Jackie exchanged knowing smiles.
All the kids had been spoiled rotten for Christmas, they had gotten everything they wanted, except for Jasmine who had asked Santa to make her baby sister come out. Nick and Jackie tried to explain to her that even Santa couldn't make that happen, Nora was simply too small still (although getting closer) to come out but despite the fact that both Nick and Jackie told her that multiple times Jasmine had been livid with Santa on Christmas morning when she had woken up and discovered Nora was still in Jackie's tummy, and the strong willed little girl apparently had no plans to forgive him any time soon even though it had been several days since Christmas.
"Let's eat our dinner." Jackie suggested as she begun getting plates out of the cupboard.
The family sat down and had a nice dinner together, Jackie was enjoying every second of Christmas break because before she knew it, she, Jasmine, Houston, and Johnna would be back at school again!
