Aragorn walks the garden pathways under a full moon. Something in his blood stirs this night and is restless. He strides the quiet path, inhaling the sweet perfume of the midnight roses, and listens to the soft serenade of the crickets and night birds as they sing to each other. He lets his heart guide his steps, for he knows not where his feet take him. He turns a corner and stops abruptly at the sight before him. The vision steals the breath from his lungs. He feels he is in a daze. Nay, not a daze, for he can not move.

"If this be a dream, I pray I never awaken," his mind pleads. Before him, bathed in the silvery light of Ithil stands the most beautiful sight his mortal eyes ever beheld.

Pretty elleth, walkin' down the street

Pretty elleth, the kind I like to meet

"Who are you?" he wonders as she pauses a moment to take in the sweet scent of another bloom before moving on.

Pretty elleth, I don't believe you

You're not the truth

No one could look as good as you

Skin, fair as the newly fallen snow. Hair, black as the night.

Mercy...

"May the Valar have mercy on me," he silently prays as he closes his long coat to hide his painful swelling. He swallows hard, feeling like an untried youth.

Pretty elleth, won't you pardon me

Pretty elleth, I couldn't help but see

Pretty elleth, and you look lovely as can be

Are you lonely just like me?

Eyes, blue as the deepest lake. Lips, as red as any king's ruby. "You are as lovely as the brightest star in the night sky," he whispers softly.

Pretty elleth, stop a while

Pretty elleth, talk a while

He does not realize his voice carried on the night air until she turns her gaze his way.

Pretty elleth, give your smile to me

Pretty elleth, yeah, yeah, yeah

Pretty elleth, look my way

Her eyes sweep over him, carefully assessing him.

Pretty elleth, say you'll stay with me

Cause I need you

I'll treat you right

Come with me baby

Be mine tonight

The lovely elleth hides her smile behind a flower she's picked as a gentle blush rises across her cheeks. Slowly, she glides toward him. Their eyes lock. She slips silently by and continues her way down the garden path. Something in his chest squeezes tight, then bursts.

Pretty elleth, don't walk on by

Pretty elleth, don't make me cry

Pretty elleth, don't walk away

Stunned, he just stands there as she disappears into the star studded night, and hangs his head in misery.

OK

If that's the way it must be, OK

Slowly, he turns on his heels to retrace his path, hoping to catch another glimpse of the elleth who has stolen his breath.

I guess I'll go on home, it's late

There'll be tomorrow night

Alas, she is gone from his sight. "Did she ever truly exist?" he asks himself in wonder. "Does she come here often?"

But wait, what do I see?

Is she walking back to me?

Yeah, she's walking back to me

He stumbles to a halt. The beautiful elleth glides to a stop before him and swiftly presses her lips to his. Before he can blink, she's gone. Was this a dream?he ponders.

O-Oh Pretty elleth

In his hand is a midnight rose in full bloom.
