Hermione was sitting in her room, packing her trunk. She was glad that she would be meeting Harry and Ron once again. She had missed them a lot during the holidays. She usually spent the holidays with the Weasleys at the Burrow, but this time, she had decided to stay with her parents just for a change. She had to leave for Hogwarts the next day. She did not want to leave her parents, but she also missed her friends and professors at Hogwarts. She was sure she was going to be Head Girl. She thought at times that she shouldn't be too overconfident, but still, there was no one at Hogwarts who could steal that position from her. Her mother's voice lifted her out of her thoughts.

"Hermione! Come on downstairs sweetie! Dinner's ready!"

Hermione sighed. She was so lost in her thoughts that she had not at all packed. Deciding that she would do it later, she went downstairs to have dinner. "Have you packed Hermione?" Phyllis Granger asked. "No mum. I think I'll do it after dinner". "What were you doing for so long in there dear?" "She must have been doing some other work. Let her do it after dinner. What's the hurry anyway?" her father said as he entered the room.

"Alright, alright. Fine. Sit down." Hermione silently smiled at her father and began to eat her dinner.

After the dinner, Hermione went up to her bedroom to complete her packing. She was just beginning to think about Harry and Ron and how wonderful it would be to meet them after such a long time. She snapped out of her thoughts. "Oh, what am I doing?" she said to herself. "If I don't stop with my thoughts and get started with the packing then I'll have to do it in the morning. So she stopped her thoughts and quickly completed her packing.

She went and sat at her table. There was a big pile of letters on her desk. She had been very ill for the past few days and so, hadn't gotten any time to read her letters. She grimaced at the thought of going through so many letters. But still, she opened the first letter. It was from Ron.

Hey Mione!

How are you? We're all perfectly fine here. And hey! I brought Lavender home yesterday to introduce her to mum and dad. They are really very happy. Hey and take care of your health okay? Looking forward to seeing you at school Herms! Harry said he'd write to you. Take care and good bye!

Ron.

She put the letter aside. There was nothing exciting in Ron's letter. Normally, he would say something about the fabulous meals he had had during the holidays. But there was nothing in this letter mentioning anything about food. She then opened the next letter. It was from Harry.

Hello Hermione!

Are you alright? I heard you were ill. You won't believe what I'm going to say now. Ron and I had a run in with Malfoy. At a park. The park that Ron, you and I went to at the beginning of the holidays. Ron and I were surprised that he would be wandering around in a muggle park, and thought that we were just seeing things. But then, he came up right to me and said that he sorry and stuff. Malfoy apologized to US. At a MUGGLE PARK. Can you believe that? He said that he was no longer believed anything about blood prejudices and other imaginary things. He told us to convey his apologies to you. Ron said that he would tell you about Malfoy but I wanted to. I'll tell you the details on while we're travelling to Hogwarts. Get well soon Mione!

Goodbye!

Harry.

Hmm.. This letter was something to think about, Hermione thought. Malfoy apologizing to them? That was just ridiculous. Maybe he wasn't in his right mind or something. She would find out when she got to school the next day.

She then opened the next letter. It was from Hogwarts.

Miss Granger,

We are very happy to inform you that you have been chosen as the Head Girl this year. We feel that you are fit and deserving for this position. You will share a dorm with the Head Boy. Further details will be discussed while you are at school.

Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Hermione thought she was going to be mad with joy. She had gotten the position of the Head Girl! This was unbelievable. She squealed and clutched the letter so hard that it almost got torn. She ran downstairs and told her parents that she had been made Head Girl. "Hermione, we are so happy for you. We knew you could do this!" her mother said. "Yes my pet. I knew you had it in you! We are so proud of you!" her father said. Hermione was very happy. The only thing that was now bothering her was:

WHO WAS THE HEAD BOY?

'I'll me find out at school tomorrow. I just hope he's nice." She thought.

Little did she know that she would get a shock once she knew who the Head Boy was.
