Hey, so you know those sappy old love stories that never come true? Well I have a "sappy old love story," and guess what?
It came true.
My name is Rachel Berry. I attended Tisch/NYU on a musical theater scholarship. When I was in high school, I was really self absorbed, and I met this amazing guy on the opposing team for Glee Club, Jesse St. James. He ended up breaking my heart, and an egg on my forehead, but once we met up again, at a stage door (of all places), and we made up, we became extremely close friends. After I graduated, my fathers insisted that I stay the summer in Lima, and get a job so I can have some money when I go back to New York City.
That's where my story begins.
It was the beginning of June, and I was already tired of Lima. Don't get me wrong, I love my dads, but this town is so judgmental and boring. Jesse had landed the role of Fiyero in Wicked a few months back, and it opened next weekend. After weeks of unneeded begging (I was an adult; I could make my own decisions), I was able to book myself a round trip ticket to New York City, which would be my only trip until I was back there for good, to go see Jesse on opening night.
Once the weekend had come to a close, and Jesse was dropping me off at the airport, I told him that I was going to sneak back to New York to see him, but he stopped dead in his tracks as soon as I said that.
"What?" I asked.
"Don't sneak back," he said sternly.
"Why, Jesse?" I questioned.
"Rach, if you sneak out, and they find out, who knows what they'll do, and what they'll assume we're doing," Jesse told me.
"Fine," I huffed, "But when I come back, you owe me big time. Do you know how much lamer Lima has gotten since you left?"
"Well considering-"
"That was rhetorical."
He waved his hands, signaling that he was surrendering, and a smile of triumph was put on my face.
"I miss you, Rach," Jesse whispered into my ear while we were in a hug.
"The countdown has already begun, Jesse. I'll be sure to call you every night, and text you every day, and there's always Skype," I replied.
"Which reminds me... Rachel? You're going to be doing Skype dates with me," Jesse said so matter-of-factly.
"Oh, really? What gives you the idea that I'd actually go on a Skype date with you since apparently I have no say in the matter?" I asked.
"Because you'd let me do this..." Jesse said as he leaned in to kiss me.
"Hmm... I think that I'll take you up on that offer," I smiled.
