This. Sucks.
You couldn't sleep. You tossed and turned but nothing felt comfortable to you. First it was too hot, then it was too cold! You just wanted to get some rest but that seemed impossible at the moment. Giving a small yawn, you walked down the stairs, wondering if Arthur was still up. Looks like you were right. He was reading a book on the couch, concentrating deeply on the novel. You assumed it was one of the many fantasy books he owned and shrugged, sitting on the couch next to him.
He looked over at you.
"I thought you were asleep."
You shook your head. "Nope, I've been trying to sleep for hours."
"Can't sleep?" in response to this you yawned and he chuckled.
He marked the page in his book and opened his arms to you.
"Come here, love."
Crawling into his lap, you set your head on his. He reached up and turned the light off before wrapping his arms around your waist.
"Comfortable?" he asked
You nodded but your eyes still refused to close. Arthur smiled and thought for a second.
"I think I know something that will do the trick."
"What is that?"
"A lullaby that I used to sing to Alfred when he was younger. So just relax and close your eyes, love." he said, running his fingers soothingly through your hair. Closing your eyes, you waited to hear his song that would supposedly help you drift off to sleep.
We're walking in the air
We're floating in the moonlit sky
The people far below are sleeping as we fly
We're holding very tight
I'm riding in the midnight blue
I'm finding I can fly so high above with you
Images of fairies filled your mind and you sighed peacefully. England's voice was all you heard and you smiled to yourself. He's such a good singer...However, you were still awake and England noticed that. He was determined to make you fall asleep, so he continued with his singing, turning his voice more soothing and calm, exactly as he had done before when Alfred was still his colony.
Far across the world
The villages go by like dreams
The rivers and the hills
The forest and the streams
Children gaze open mouthed taken by surprise
Nobody down below believes their eyes
We're surfing in the air
We're swimming in the frozen sky
We're drifting over icy mountains floating by
Your mind was barely hanging on to conciousness. Your head was filled with dreams of beautiful fairies and winter, dancing all around. Arthur smiled and decided to sing the last few verses of the song.
Suddenly swooping low on an ocean deep
Rising up a mighty monster from its sleep
We're walking in the air
We're dancing in the midnight sky
And everyone who sees us greets us as we fly
You were fast asleep at this point, laying on Arthur's chest, breathing peacefully. He kissed your head, then layed back down, closing his own eyes.
"Goodnight, my love."
