Hiccup held his new daughter in his arms. Astrid was still asleep from all the pain, just like she had been for the last fifteen hours.
She was pretty. The baby reminded him a lot of Astrid. For example, she had her blue eyes and blond hair. She was just as fierce looking. By Odin, there were so many similarities that it would be hard to list them all.
But Hiccup also saw some of himself in her. For example, he could see the freckles he'd had when he was fifteen. And the fact that she was smaller than the rest of the babies. That was because like her father, she'd been born early.
Toothless crawled up and sniffed at the little bundle of joy in his arms. Then his best friend looked at him and purred. His purring sounded something "reeran."
Reeran. That wasn't what he'd want to name his daughter. Probably something good, like Fredegund, or Rigunth, or Susanna. Something good.
But at the same time, he wanted something that would scare off the trolls. An ugly name.
Like what?
Hiccup could hear Astrid groaning in bed.
"Astrid," Hiccup started, and walked over, cradling the baby. He sat down on the bed, waiting for Astrid to wake up.
It was probably going to be a while before she did.
Hiccup spent the next hour cradling his daughter, thinking of nothing but a name. He thought back to "reeran." Something better than Reeran Hofferson Haddock.
No. More like Siren.
Siren. That was his going to be his daughter's name from this point on, if Astrid agreed.
Siren. Hiccup kissed her forehead and smiled.
Siren.
