Safe And Sound

I don't own Rufus Tseng or any of the other characters or Midgar or any of the FF7 concepts

I looked up as Rufus came into my room. The alarmed look on his face was enough to make my chest hurt. I stood abandoning my book and going to him. His arms were around me and he held tight. Something was horribly wrong with how tightly he was holding me.

"What's going on?" I asked wrapping one arm around him.

"Just hold me right now, please," he said quietly into the base of my neck.

"I won't let go till you want me too," I said and felt something hot drip onto my neck and back, my heart clenched as I realized my love was crying.

I remember tears streaming down your face

When I said, "I'll never let you go"

When all those shadows almost killed your light

I remember you said, "Don't leave me here alone"

But all that's dead and gone and passed tonight

He calmed ever so slowly as I held him, he finally spoke again, "My father made us drop a plate."

I felt myself gasp. Rufus wasn't like his father, he was light and his father was darkest. I stroked Rufus's blonde hair as he started sobbing again. He wasn't meant to kill, he was meant to love. When finally I got him to sit in my chair and sat in his lap so I could continue to hold him against me. I sang softly for him, a calming Wutain lullaby one of the women in the brothel I had grown up in used to sing for me. Soon enough his sobbing calmed again, but his hold on me remained tight. I could tell he wasn't asleep, just relaxed.

Just close your eyes

The sun is going down

You'll be alright

No one can hurt you now

Come morning light

You and I'll be safe and sound

Eventually Tseng came to look in my room. He found us on my bed with his head on my stomach fast asleep while I was messing with his hair.

"How is he?" Tseng asked.

"Shaken to all hell. He wakes up if I even think about moving," I told Tseng softly.

"His father made him detonate the bomb," Tseng told her.

I sighed and kissed the top of his head. I carefully squirmed out from under him and when to the bathroom. I came back to find him sitting up on my bed.

"Mela?" he asked as I sat back on my bed.

"I'm here," I said softly and lay beside him.

He visibly relaxed and laid beside me pulling me to him and muttering, "I love you."

I smiled and kissed him telling him to go back to sleep and soon joining him in slumber.

Don't you dare look out your window darling

Everything's on fire

The war outside our door keeps raging on

Hold on to this lullaby

Even when the music's gone

Gone
