I was kind of bumming last night about how Penny and Leonard were so excited about going to Switzerland together, and how it didn't happen…and I made myself feel better by thinking up this.

DISCLAIMER: I don't own any of these great characters.

As she opened her apartment door, a big smile came over Penny's face. "Hey, baby, how was Switzerland?" Without allowing Leonard a chance to answer, she grabbed both of his hands and leaned in to give him a quick kiss.

"Eh…" he shrugged in answer to her question, looking down at their entwined fingers. "It was okay. CERN was amazing, and Raj and I haven't had much of a chance to hang out lately, so that was nice, too…but honestly, I would rather have been with you." He looked up at her. "You look good; do you feel better?"

"Yeah," she said. "Three days too late." She squeezed his hands. "I got your voicemail on the fourteenth. I'm sorry I didn't answer the phone; I was giving up my chicken soup to the trash can. But your message was really sweet. I would have called you back, but I had no voice at all. At best you would have heard squeaking."

"It's okay," Leonard said. "I had a feeling that you wouldn't be able to talk." He trailed off, then looked up at her again. "I am so sorry I couldn't give you a great Valentine's Day!" He blurted the words with a pained expression on his face.

Penny let go of Leonard's hands so she could give him a hug. "I was the one who ruined it, honey. I got sick."

"I could have stayed home with you, if it wasn't a work commitment."

She cocked her head to see him better. "Leonard, you had to go, just like you had to go to the North Pole. Work is important. Don't feel bad." Leonard just sighed. "I'm bummed we didn't get to spend the day together," Penny continued, "but it's the thought that counts, isn't it?"

"Right," Leonard said, smiling now. "And we're together now, so…do you want to have our Valentine's Day today?

Penny's face, which had been fairly serious during the conversation, now brightened visibly. "Can we go to Disneyland and ride the Matterhorn?"

Leonard laughed. "You want to?"

"Yes!"

"Sure," he said grinning at her.

Penny stepped into the hallway and shut the apartment door. "And then," she said with a smile, resting her hands over his shoulders, "you and I will come back here, I'll put on my new underwear, and we can pretend that we're in that romantic hotel room, in Switzerland, on Valentine's Day."

Leonard smiled at her, taking one of her hands as they headed down the stairs. "Sounds like a plan. Happy Valentine's Day, Penny."

"Happy Valentine's Day," she said warmly, bringing his hand up to her lips and kissing it. She was happy, and she could see that he was, too. So they would have their Valentine's Day-better late than never.
