Kyra was sitting on the couch reading when Reba walked in.
"Hey Kyra can I talk to you for a minute?"
"Sure mom, what's up" Reba sat down next to her daughter… unsure of how to begin.
"Mom, it's okay just say it"
"Honey I pushed you into entering the talent show. I know you didn't enjoy it and I feel really bad about that. I thought it would be a great experience for you but I didn't take so many things into account. I certainly didn't consider you have stage fright. I didn't mean for that humiliating experience to happen to you"
"Mom, it's okay. I'm not mad. Hey things like that happen all that time," Kyra said pulling her mom into a hug.
"I know but I still feel bad about it. I want you to know I'm sorry"
"Since it's your first offense," Kyra said, "I'll go easy on you" Reba raised her eyebrow in surprise for a second but then realized Kyra was serious. Ordinarily she'd have gone into a whole big lecture. "Now just a minute young lady," she might have said, "I'm the mother and you're my daughter, not the other way around and you can't do anything…" and on and on she would have went. But in this case Kyra was justified.
"Well," Reba said, "I reckon I deserve whatever you see fit for me to get. So go for it," she told her daughter.
"Sorry mom," Kyra said, "but this has to happen for you to feel better. You have to skip your book club and all the other events for the next four Saturdays and Sundays." Then Kyra really surprised her.
"The first Saturday you're going to take me to see Whistle Down The Wind in the local theater. Then we'll go out to dinner. Sunday is miniature golf and the movie Aida. The following week we're going to see Les Miserables on Saturday and to the carnival on Sunday. Finally the 4th Saturday we're going to the Art museum and the mall on Sunday"
"You mean I get to spend time alone with you," Reba squealed excitedly.
"Yeah... like I said" Reba hugged her daughter.
"This is the best punishment I ever got. I can't wait to serve my time"
Kyra giggled. Just then Brock came in with Jake.
"Hi mommy"
"Hey Jake," she said hugging him, "how was time with daddy"
"Great… I got a special treat," he said running off to play.
"Hey Reba the circus is in town on Saturday. Would you like to go"
"Sorry Brock. I can't. I'm on punishment for the next 4 Saturday's and Sunday's," Reba said with a big grin on her face"
"Okay first of all HUH," Brock asked confused, "and secondly why would you be happy about that and third HUH" Reba laughed.
"Kyra's making me skip my book club meetings and the other events and spend one on one time with her. It's because I pushed her into the talent show and all" Brock chuckled.
"Reba you could really learn a lesson from our daughter on handing out punishments. Next time I forget to pick up Jake at day care why don't you make me 'skip work' and we'll spend 'one on one' time together." Reba laughed and threw a pillow at him. The Saturday's and Sunday's Reba and Kyra spent together brought them closer together. On the week after her 'punishment' was over Reba asked Kyra if she could take her out to lunch. "Sure mom" At the restaurant Reba spoke. "Kyra I want you to know that this was really the best time I ever had those weekends. Even though I'm not required to do them anymore can we still do that once a month" "Sure mom. I'd love that" And they shared a big hug
