Yes, so, I know I should be writing my Naruto story (anyone reading that – don't yell at me and check my profile for it's status, I just updated), but I got this burst of inspiration recently and I've learned that it is a VERY bad thing to ignore the inspirational bursts.
I know the idea isn't fantastically original. My bad. And I'm so, so sorry about the title. Seems my inspiration didn't quite make it far enough to think of a title for me.
Still, hope you enjoy. Reviews are love!
Disclaimer: -depressed sigh-. Does that explain it enough?
-- No Use For A Mask --
A mask gives one pause for thought, doesn't it? It can be used for several things. Well, that I can think of, anyway, but I'm sure they're all useful. I'm sure Sheik thinks of his mask as mighty useful, of course, hence the defiant "No, I will not take it off. Ever."
Sheik says that his mask:
1. Hides him from prying eyes (all I got was a roll of the eyes when I asked him just what they were trying to 'pry' on, and why not give them a show?)
2. Hides his identity (I got a face full of Sheikah-fist when I attempted to make sure he really was a boy)
3. Is practical when you're trawling through the Gerudo Desert (he refused to answer when I asked how often he planned to walk through that delightful picnic ground)
4. Allows him more confidence in his actions because people can't read his reactions (I told him bluntly that he was a Sheikah. He wasn't entitled to reactions. He wasn't impressed)
And 5. Held his hair back and was just something he'd grown accustomed to, so could I please stop trying to rip it off when I thought he wasn't concentrating? (I widened my eyes in mock surprise and said I would never dream of carrying out such a scandalous act! I probably deserved the punch in the arm that night when I thought he was asleep)
Then a series of events, beginning with yet another of the King's horribly disguised attempts at getting myself and his daughter together that ended in all of us (the princess, me, and the not-so-subtly-annoyed Sheikah warrior) storming out, led to my discovery of the real reasons Sheik adamantly refused to remove his mask.
1. It hides him from my prying eyes (because the second I saw those deliciously beautiful lips I really couldn't help myself).
2. It keeps the fact that he really is the most beautiful person I've ever seen a secret from everyone else so I don't have to worry about someone stealing him away from me (though that suit probably cancelled out anything and everything the mask did).
3. It's entirely impractical when you're trawling through the Gerudo Desert, because nights there are cold (and that mask is frustratingly hard to get off, damnit).
4. It gives him more confidence in every day life and killing various people, because he's a bumbling mess once it comes off (which is kind of endearing, given the right situation.)
And 5. It hides his blush when I tell him how beautiful his hair is when it's out, which he's had to grow accustomed to because I've taken to saying it quite a lot.
… And telling him dirty jokes.
Because it's fun watching a blush win a battle with a Sheikah where so many others have failed.
This was written in half an hour or so. I'm quite proud of it, really. Except the title. Blergh. And originality FAIL but aaah well. I hope you liked it also. Do tell ^^
