This is a oneshot by one of my good friend Rabid June-Bug. He doesn't want to get an account, so I'm going to post it here for him.

The Prey

The creature's eyes burned with a ravenous intensity as he watch his quarry helplessly wander about his domain. Though he hated to cut the fun short, he knew that he needed to just kill it before he fainted from hunger. For just a second more, he gleefully relished the pitiful cries of the young Vulpix— then sprang out from the masterfully concealed cave.

With an almost unearthly snarl, the Mightyena closed his mighty jaws around the neck of his prey. He listened to the vertebrae crackle under the pressure, and he growled his satisfaction— until he realized the fox wasn't dead. With a lighting fast twist of his head, the young Vulpix sank his long front teeth deep into the wolf's ear. Yowling in fury, the Mightyena lost his grip on the Vulpix, which darted into the foliage. Shouting with a mad rage, blood pouring from a deep gash on his head where a tooth had grazed his skull, the Mightyena tore after the smaller animal.

Suddenly, he came into a large clearing where the Vulpix sat calmly, his golden eyes gleaming in the moonlight. Without hesitation, the Mightyena dashed up to the Vulpix and sank his teeth into….. A small bush. Faster than anything the Mightyena had ever seen, the Vulpix had neatly sidestepped the Mightyena and latched onto his leg, squeezing his jaws together tighter, tighter…and the leg broke off all together. The Vulpix tumbled backwards, a bit surprised that he had actually bitten a bone in half. Quickly, though, the Vulpix recovered from his surprise and sprinted again into the darkness.

The Mightyena, whimpering in agony, limped around before taking in the situation. He came to a sudden realization that he HAD TO KILL THAT VULPIX! Slowly, his eyes widened, his pupils turned to slits, and his lips pulled back into a grotesque mask of horror. Without a sound, the Mightyena started running as fast as he could manage.

The Vulpix, meanwhile, had figured out that the Mightyena probably wouldn't give up now. He turned around, figuring out his position. Then, a crafty glint flickered across his eyes, and he raced north. After a few seconds, the Mightyena came streaking behind, following the clear send of the Vulpix's blood. Soon, the woods thinned and he saw the fox dash into a very large mouthed cave.

The Mightyena examined the area around him— there was certainly no escape for the Vulpix. With a guttural hiss, he slunk up the hill and stepped quietly into the cave. The first thing he noticed that was wrong was the smell. He couldn't place it, but it came from his darkest nightmares. The second thing he noticed was the pile of old bones in the rear of the cave. A huff of hot breath wavered across his back. He looked up and into the blood red eyes of Luxray. With a high pitched whine of terror, the Mightyena fled the cave, the Luxray snapping at his heels.

The Vulpix, proud of himself, went home to nurse his wounds; alive to hunt once more.
