A/N: I don't own Harry Potter. This idea has been in my head for a while, and I reckoned it might be a good idea for me to write it down. This is for the Obsessionist – Merry Christmas

Never left alone

Sanguini was never truly alone. He still had her. She was his… forever. Even if she didn't exist anymore.

She was always near… always watching… but she grew tired. Tired of having to watch over him, as if he was some toddler. Which perhaps he was, seeing as he never seemed to heal after her death.

He'd cried. Long and hard, he'd cried for her. She wiped his tears with a pale hand, one she knew he couldn't see. He was still afraid, though. Now that she wasn't there, his childhood fears returned. He feared darkness, above all. At night he stayed inside, not wishing to enter the darkness – even if it was only to feed. Sometimes he screamed. Then she'd grab his hand, or his arm, or his shoulder, just to comfort him. It never did, though.

For Sanguini her presence was the hardest. She never left him, and he could feel it. She was stopping him from healing, and the more she stayed, the longer he'd have to suffer, and the longer he needed to forget her.

But he'd never forget her. She had always had this muted light, and it captured him. Made him miss her.

He had tried to tell himself a thousand times that she was gone, that he was alone – that she had left him, and that time would fix everything.

How very wrong he was. Time couldn't heal his wounds. His screams at night weren't muffled, but real, and true and horrifying. Her face haunted her dreams… The pain he felt at her loss was just too great.

He wondered if he'd ever be just Sanguini again, or would she fill his life? Thoughts of her, her face, her arms…

But she left him. She left him, when he begged her to let him change her. She point-blank refused.

He thought he'd been alone all along.

But she thought herself selfish to stay with him, causing him this misery. She'd have to leave, someday, but, for now, she was watching over him. Wiping away his tears, battling his fears and fighting with his nightmares.

She'd never leave. Not while Sanguini lived.
