August 9
It is the day after I left Mr. Loomis alone at the valley. It still brings tears to my eyes thinking of leaving him all alone. He has searched for people for probably more than a year, and yet I left him.
I'm afraid to think of what will happen to Mr. Loomis. Sure, he has shelter, food, water, and has the knowledge to build a generator, but will he go insane since I'm gone? I shudder to think.
I guess it was right to leave him though. But then, I think it was not. I did like him. I enjoyed his company. But when he started to act strange, I started feeling uneasy. Why couldn't he just ask me? Another thing, what if I didn't find anymore life? What if everyone was dead? What if, what if, what if…
I shook my head. Stop with the ifs! Be positive! You saw birds didn't you? There has to be a sign of life somewhere! Sigh. I guess I better start walking. All I have been doing is eating and sleeping.
I started walking. The sight of the land was awful. Everything was either gray, dead brown, or an ashy color. There were fallen and dead trees, grass, and plants. Ugh. I even saw some dead people. It was so sad. The only things that were around were our buildings. My stomach started feeling uneasy. I missed my parents. I missed Joseph and David, even Faro. I also missed the Kleins, the Peters, and the Johnsons.
I missed Mr. Loomis.
I was starting to think of heading back. But I shouldn't. I can't give up hope. I have to keep finding people that can help us, or people that we can help.
I have been thinking. What if all of this stuff was on purpose? Is God punishing us? Is it because of all of the bad things we've done? Or is it nature's revenge? Whatever it is, maybe its right for us to be punished. But there are good people in the world to. The people who make mistakes, but they repent them. They fix them.
I continued walking. There was a hill. I started climbing up. It was a pretty deep hill, but I didn't stop. Then I reached the top. I took a step, and then….THUMP.
My foot tripped on a rock, and I crash landed to the ground. I moaned and rubbed my head. When I opened my eyes, I couldn't believe my eyes.
The grass was green.
