Blaine clung to Mike's arm, seeking warmth and comfort from his boyfriend as they walked along a frozen lake. Even with his scarf and winter coat, Blaine still felt chilly. Their boots crunched as they met the snow on the ground, the sound disrupting the perfect silence that accompanied the snowflakes slowly falling down on them.
It was perfection. Blaine couldn't describe this moment otherwise as he looked up at his boyfriend and the scenery around them. Mike smiled softly at him, his brown eyes bright with adoration that Blaine often felt he didn't deserve. His cheeks were red because of the cold, but Blaine suspected Mike's gaze might have very well made him blush furthermore.
People never saw anything more than friendship between them. They never thought there was someone better for Blaine than Kurt. They all thought Mike and Tina would get married and have Asian babies. They all thought wrong. So wrong.
His instant connection to Mike wasn't ordinary. You don't befriend people so quickly unless they're special. Everything was just easy with Mike, everything just clicked into place to work perfectly like clockwork. No one but them saw what they had. No one had seen how they were slowly falling in love with each other.
"Penny for your thoughts?" Mike's soothing voice brought him back from inside his head. Blaine shook his head, grinning from ear to ear.
"I was just thinking how lucky I am to have you in my life," Blaine answered, a little embarrassed. It had been two years since they got together and every day still felt as exciting and overwhelming as the first one. Mike got him. He somehow always knew what to do or say to Blaine, no matter what the situation was. With Kurt it always felt like they were dating just for the sake of dating. And yeah, Blaine had feelings for Kurt, but in retrospect, it was affection more than anything. Blaine never paid that much attention to Kurt's little quirks as much as did to Mike's. Blaine never lost hours of his life just watching Kurt sleep. Blaine never learned to cook for Kurt. Kurt never told Blaine how beautiful he looked without hair gel. Kurt always comforted Blaine when he was in pain. But Kurt never cried with him because he hurt.
"You and me both, Blaine," Mike replied, returning the grin as he leaned down to capture Blaine's lips.
"I love you so much it hurts sometimes, Michael," Blaine admitted as they pulled away, their faces still close to one another.
"And I you," Mike breathed out before taking Blaine into a full embrace, his hand coming up to card through Blaine's free curls. His heart was heavy and light at the same time, drunk with happiness as it beat along with Mike's.
