"Sasuke, how do you spell 'definitely'?"
Across the table Sasuke and Naruto both raised their heads from their textbooks and give Sakura funny looks; Naruto's a more exaggerated 'open-mouthed fish' look, and Sasuke's a simple, raised eyebrow.
"Sakura-chan, how do you not know how to spell 'definitely'?"
Sakura gritted her teeth and Sasuke rolled his eyes. "Like you're one to talk, dobe."
Naruto gave a growl and opened his mouth, most to likely yell at Sasuke, but then he paused, glared at him defiantly, and uncharacteristically gave a simple, "Humph!" He folded his arms and turned his chin up and away from best friend sitting next to him. It was Sakura's turn to roll her eyes at his immaturity.
She turned back to Sasuke. "Well? Do you know how to spell it?"
Sasuke seemed to mull it over for a bit and said, "D-E-F…" He paused, "E-N-I-T-A-L-L-Y. Try spelling it that way."
Sakura erased her spelling of 'deffinitily' and wrote down, 'defenitally.'
"Hmm…" She frowned. "No, that still doesn't look right."
Sasuke leaned across the table to examine it. His eyebrows pinched together as he grabbed a pencil and spare piece of paper and scribbled down several versions, but each one looked stupider than the last. Finally he tossed the pencil down. "Well, just go ask someone for their computer and use the spellchecker on it."
Sakura's lips fell in a deeper frown and her eyebrows expressed her displeasure, "Fine."
She moved to get up, grabbing her paper and pencil, when Naruto suddenly burst out in exasperation, "It's spelled D-E-F-I-N-I-T-E-L-Y!"
Sakura and Sasuke paused to look their random friend in puzzlement, "What?" They asked in unison.
Naruto gave a short laugh, "I can't believe you two don't know how to spell 'definitely'!"
Sakura's face turned a light shade of red. "Naruto, you actually know how to spell 'definitely'?"
Naruto gave an exaggerated sigh and dramatic flailing of hand gestures in disbelief at his best friends' lack of faith. "Of course! You forget I have Guy-Sensei for English," He frowned, "Where as you two geniuses are lucky enough to have Kakashi-Sensei." At this remark he stuck his tongue out at Sasuke.
Sasuke gave Naruto a challenging stare. "Fine then, Dobe, are you definitely positive that's how 'definitely' is spelled?"
"Yes."
"Definitely?"
"Yes!"
"One hundred percent, definitely positive?"
"For crying out loud, Sasuke! Yes, I am definitely sure that that is how you spell it!"
"Are you willing to bet, not only Sakura's grade, but on her scholarship that hangs in the balance?"
Sakura rolled her eyes discretely. Whoever said Sasuke didn't like drama had obviously never spent time with him and Naruto together. Competition was still drama, after all.
Naruto paused and glanced at Sakura, who gave him a stern glance.
"Ye-yes?" He answered.
"You better be, Naruto." Sakura's glance turned into a warning glare. "My future may depend on it."
Naruto gulped. "On second thought, maybe you should go use the spellchecker."
AN: Thank heavens for spellchecker, right? *laughs* I know I'd die without it. 'Definitely' is actually one of those words that I really can never spell without it, thus the inspiration for this little drabble. You gotta love team 7, they're just so fun! :3 And poor Naruto! XD
I tried keeping Sasuke in character, but you know, it's kinda hard. I just have to pull out his overly competitive side whenever he's with Naruto.
Random side note: writing Fanfics is so addicting. :O I'm loving this! Wish I would've started writing sooner.
