"Doctor Fecilier likes his shadow games. You're the product of true love, of good, which is something his… benefactors like in a woman. In order to use Mowgli's fang blade and save the Evil Queen, you have to become the Black Knight on the chessboard. Win the game, you get the blade. You get the blade… "
"I save Regina."
"Precisely, my dear."
Emma frowned. "True love was supposed to have saved her."
"And it will. You making the sacrifice of your heart to retrieve Regina's will break the spell on her. Mowgli's fang blade is the only blade we can access that will cut through the briars that encase her."
"And I go Evil, become this black knight to play a game I suck at, get the girl-"
"You know magic comes with a price, dearie."
"I don't, like… stay evil, do I?"
"I don't make the rules."
"You just bend the hell out of them until they are so warped no one remembers what they were anymore." Emma looked away. "What if I can't win the game?"
"I'll be there to guide you."
"In a way, you made me. If I am no longer the product of-"
"Who you become doesn't change how you came to be, child," Gold said. "It doesn't change what you are at heart. You are the savior, Emma. Somehow you will always be, from the breaking of Storybrooke's curse to breaking Regina's."
There was a silence for a moment before Emma bit her lip. "Alright. Take me to the Shadow Man."
