not sorry

Disclaimer: Excuse me; look up Larxene and Axel's deaths. Then try to tell me I own Kingdom Hearts.

A/N: Yes, after watching waaaaay too many Larxel vids on YouTube, the prequel to "just the way i am" demanded to be written. chibi eyes I just love Larxel! Oh, and the perspective is a little weird on this one; my apologies.

He was a double agent, a spy, a sneak, and he wasn't sorry. They were traitors after all, right? That was his job; eliminate the traitors. Even Marluxia didn't deny that. Of course, it wasn't that he was particularly fond of the Superior, but getting on his bad side was not something Axel felt like doing.

Having no heart, he couldn't feel remorse, so there's no problem with that, either. The job was nice and guilt-free. Except...

The Flurry of Dancing Flames sighed and leaned against the wall. His spikes of red hair drooped; his green eyes, usually so bright, were dull. He had no real "friends" in the Organization, but he had this nagging feeling that he shouldn't be even thinking of betraying them.

He mentally rephrased that. Betraying her. But she's a heartless (aren't they all) example of a Nobody, someone who delights in cruelty and the pain of others. Even if you could stretch the word "friendship" to include them, he reminded himself, he doesn't have a heart, he can't have friends, can't feel emotions.

Axel has no problem with exposing and destroying Marluxia. Traitors are traitors. And of course he wouldn't feel sorry if Larxene was gone.

He can't feel sorry. So there's no way that he could be feeling disturbed at the thought of her death...and even worse at the thought of him killing her.

A sudden thought occurred to him. A simple one. Half of him felt like he was committing treason; but the other half thought it was a brilliant idea.

Let her off the hook. Claim she's a double agent, too. Believable, it being Larxene and all. But why...why, he wondered, would he do that? It's not like they're friends. And she is a traitor.

His green eyes began to sparkle. He had it all planned out. She wouldn't have to fade. Never mind that he can't feel friendship, just think of it as a favor...a favor very long owed (since before they were Nobodies)

Yes, Axel reflected, his plot forming under the fiery spikes of hair. Yes, he's a double agent, and she's a traitor. But maybe...maybe it's the right thing to do. It had been so long since he gave any consideration to the right thing that he laughed.

He was a double agent, a spy, a sneak, and he wasn't sorry that he was going to save Larxene's life. And then another thought occurred to him.

He wasn't sorry, either, that they were friends, no matter how Heartless.
