The Zodiac Race

Once upon a time, long, long ago

Lived thirteen animals and a god who stood for show

The god wanted the animals to eat with him a feast

For the god wanted close to him, all of the beasts

Now the god wanted only twelve so he declared a race

Only the fastest animal would make it to first place

Now the rat was really small, and he was sure he would lose

But he got a clever idea that lit the zodiac fuse

The rat went to the feline, that foolish little cat

Was destined that day to be tricked by the rat

He said: "The god changed the banquet to the next day"

The cat said: "Why thank you rat, now I can sleep away"

So the day of the race, the cat slept in his box

While the sneaky little rat hitched a ride on the ox

As he approached the finish line the rat jumped ahead

The rat won the race while the cat was snug in bed

They all had one deliciously big meal

When the cat comes in at last, you can imagine how he feels

The cat chased the rat, around and around

Until, utterly tired, they hit the grassy ground

Then all the zodiac animal's and the god decided

That they, as a family, should never be devided

That no matter how many lives they live again, and again

They would never part, there would be no end

And that is how it all came to be

An everlasting bond for all eternity
