A Killing

They tore around the corner, wheels screaming, pursuit cars nipping at their heels.

They laughed, and cursed when the car went too close to anything, and laughed more after they came out alive.

Erza drove like a mad woman, passing the wheel hand over hand as she guided the car through the maze that was Magnolia. Lucy, next to Erza, spat directions as fast as the red head could take them. Somewhere in the backseat Natsu was howling their success while Gray pissed off the police with his middle finger.

Shots rang out into the air, but what did they care? They were young and indestructible and heading toward the docks to catch the next barge out of Fiore with the entire paper contents of the Bank of Magnolia.

They'd won.

"Natsu! Get back in the car!" Lucy barked, her words overlapping each other as she was trying to cram the sentence out before the next turn.

"Wha- Why!?"

Gray was quick to grab the man's shirt and drag him into the seat. The next thing a screeching filled the air and sparks waterfalled off the roof of the car.

The blonde smirked. "That's why." Too smug.

Natsu stared bug-eyed at the roof for a long second after, his body waving after the movements of the car.

Just after they heard one final crash in the distance and the shots stopped and their laughter sobered. Adrenaline flushed from their bodies with a final few giggles. They burst from the city in a cloud of debris. Before them lay the wharf and beyond that, their target.

The car hit wooden planks hard and rumbled over the length of the wharf like quick thunder, before hitting a prepared ramp and launching into the air.

They soared and for a moment all time stilled.

Then they fell hard, and the car met the deck of the barge with a shudder.

Its inhabitants clambered out, weak-kneed but smiling. They smelled the breeze and waited for reality to slap them in the face. They were rich.

A/N: This isn't a new story and has been completed for a while. I still haven't written fanfiction and still have no plans to despite loving and respecting the medium. However, I'm still writing stories and would always love any feedback given. :)
