The smell of musty old books filled her senses. She could only imagine the amount of bacillacea floating around in the stale air. Someone should really crack a window, air out the place. She thought. The ancient floorboards whined and groaned under her boots, the sound weirdly muted in the empty aisles.

"Achoo!"

Oh how she'd love to attack all these bookshelves with a feather-duster! The lack of hygiene was making her itchy all over. She hugged herself, as if to keep away all the evil little dustballs so desperate to invade her respiratory system. How do Lafontaine and Laura even survive here? This whole library is a safety hazard! They could be infected with all sorts of outlandish diseases!

That thought made her focus on her current mission: 'Find Lafontaine'. They once again lost all track of time while researching god knows what. Perry was used to them being so invested, but with everything that was going on in the school, she worried. And that was why she was shuffling through aisle after aisle of literature and coursebooks, hoping to find the science department soon. Because if she was being completely honest, walking around in a dimly lit, scary library in the middle of the night was probably not the brightest idea.

There was a scratching sound coming from the ceiling. She picked up her pace. Shrieks sounded somewhere outside. She turned around briefly, then hurried along. Where are you, Lafontaine!?

The weirdness was getting on her nerves and almost made her miss it. There was a faint blue light illuminating the wall on the far left. Large, fuzzy shadows were cast on the floor. And there they were. Laying on the ground, surrounded by an endless amount of books and paper stacks, was Lafontaine. They seemed to be fast asleep. Their head was resting on a copy of Stephen Hawking's Universe, which seemed relatively uncomfortable. Yet they looked so peaceful.

Perry crouched down next to them, the corners of her mouth curling into a soft smile. She almost didn't want to wake them. But an explosion sounded in the distance and she was reminded of their situation. She sighed. Her arm was midway to their shoulder when they suddenly sat upright.

"Stop wasting the science!" They exclaimed urgently. It made Perry jump.

"What?!" Was the only thing she could think of to ask.

But they slumped back to the floor and whispered.

"Keep it safe."

Perry sat and stared at them for a long while. Maybe she should let them sleep a little longer. She wasn't all that tired, she could keep watch. And hopefully, someday soon, things would go back to normal.
