They stumbled together across the white sand. It was slow going as she tried to help support his weight, taking special care not to jostle his injured side. Just a short time ago this beach had been a war zone, alive with the sounds of blaster fire and explosives. Now, it was silent but for the sound of the waves softly lapping against the sand. In the distance, the rising shock wave from the Death Star's weapon gave the appearance of a sunset on the horizon. Their mission was complete. With the Death Star's plans safe in the hands of the Alliance there was hope. Hope to defeat the Death Start and even hope to defeat the Empire itself. However, Cassian and herself would not live to see that day. There would be no escape from Scarif for them.

Reaching the water's edge they sank down to the soft sand and stared out across the water. She reached out and grasped his hand, letting him know they we still in this together.

"Your father would have been proud, Jyn" he whispered softly.

She looked over at him, and it touched her to see that he truly meant those words. "I'm sorry for what I said when we were leaving Eadu. I know you had orders, but you had every chance to pull the trigger and you didn't" she whispered back.

Shaking his head he looked down at the sand. "No, I should have trusted you then." He paused and his eyes found her's. "I do now."

She reached over and placed her other hand on his cheek. They had known each other for such a short time, but he had changed everything for her. He had given her a second chance at life, a chance to be a part of something bigger than just herself. In him she had found someone to care about, and for the first time in many years, someone to trust. Leaning forward she pressed her lips softly to his. It was a gentle kiss that laid bare their feelings for each other, and whispered of what could have been. A first and a last kiss.

The shock wave was much closer when they parted. The sound of the wave in the distance grew louder as it moved to consume them. He gripped her hand tighter and her own fear was reflected in his eyes. He pulled her in to him and held her, their bodies pressed tightly together, hearts pounding rapidly as one.

She shook slightly in his arms and he whispered "It's ok Jyn" over and over again in her ear. His voice quivering with his own fear. The ground shook beneath them, and the sound grew to a roar around them. Gripping Cassian tightly she closed her eyes. She whispered Chirrut's words "I'm one with the Force. The Force is with me," finding peace as the wave of death crashed over them, consuming the last two members of Rogue One.
