A/N: This is a really unlikely family/friendship story. Inspired by my younger sister's prompt to get Draco and Luna to become friends. There is also some implied Slash between Draco and another character who is yet to be revealed! Review and tell me who you think it is ;-)
Disclaimer: I do not own the Harry Potter series or it's characters.
"How dare you!" hissed Lucius Malfoy, throwing out his arm and slapping Narcissa's face.
"And you ask yourself why! I have had enough of you and your abuse, to myself and to Draco! I don't believe I could have made a better choice, and in saying that, I am leaving you. And Draco will be coming with me," replied Narcissa calmly.
Narcissa Malfoy had been seeing Xenophilius Lovegood, owner of The Quibbler, for well over a year. She wasn't completely sure as to why, but oh, how he reminded her of Lucius, just with a far more settled temper. Narcissa did not agree in the least with Lucius's dark ways. She wanted the best for herself, but more so for her only son.
A week before school was to start, Narcissa and Draco officially moved in to the Lovegood residence. Narcissa was content and felt safe, but Draco, however was slightly less enthusiastic.
"But Mother, I barely know the man, and his daughter, and imagine what will happen when school starts," Draco complained.
"Draco, it is for the best. Xenophilius is most kind to have let us stay and he does care for you. As for Luna, I'm sure you two will become good friends. After all, she may end up being your step-sister," said Narcissa, hugging her son.
When Draco sat down on his bed, he thought of his father. How he made his blood boil. Draco didn't think moving in with the Lovegoods was entirely necessary, but of course, they couldn't have stayed with Lucius. And now they were likely to be cut off from the Malfoy wealth. Oh well, thought Draco, looking out the window at the vast fields outside. It could have been worse.
"Hey there," said a small voice from the doorway.
Without turning around, Draco replied, a simple "Hello."
Luna walked into Draco's room, and sat beside him. "It's not easy for me either, you know. My mother's dead, and now I have this feeling Daddy's trying to replace her. I'm not saying I don't like Narcissa. She's a lovely lady. But it's just as hard for me as it is for you," she explained calmly.
"I suppose so," mumbled Draco, looking at the floor.
"I don't think they'll tease us at school. So if that's something you're worried about, don't be. They've got no right to pry into people's personal business," said Luna. "And just so you know, Draco, you can always trust me. I'm not expecting you to tell me your deepest secrets, but you know, don't hesitate to. Daddy thinks you and I are just going to become best friends all of a sudden. I don't know about you, but that seems a bit too much at this point," she laughed. Obviously she had some unease about the situation too.
Draco laughed quietly, trying to hide his smile. "Alright, Luna. I guess I'll be able to trust you. But not with my very deepest secret, not yet at least."
"I understand. It's about love, isn't it? I can tell. Don't worry. Whoever she… or he is, they're very lucky that you like them," Luna mused.
"Merlin, how do you do it?" asked Draco.
"It's obvious, Draco. Don't be frightened though, it's not like I can tell who it is exactly. But I'm sensing it's a boy."
"Keep it down, Luna. Maybe I'll tell you. Later though. I'm not revealing my soft side just yet," Draco said, standing up.
"If you say so. It doesn't matter anyway. I expect Daddy's getting tea ready. I'd best go help." Luna stood up and left.
She's already got me figured out? I wonder if all 'sisters' are like this.
