Remus Lupin lay awake in his bedroom, making little sparks come out of the tip of his wand, entertaining him slightly.
There was an eerie silence that had settled over the house, like the calm before the storm, and it made Remus feel slightly on edge.
The calm had ended, and the storm had arrived. A wolf howl shattered the silence, causing him to jump. Then silence. That was all it was, he assured himself, and his eyelids started to feel heavy, dragging him into the pits of dreaded, nightmare-filled slumber, and the second wolf howl came, only this time it was followed by a whimper, and a noise that sounded suspiciously like gunshot.
Remus couldn't take it anymore, as he swung out on bed and slipped his feet into his trainers, which lay by the door. He silently bounded down the stars and walked out into the cold December snow. His fee made odd footprints in the wintery powder as he walked towards the forest that surrounded his fathers' house. He carefully scanned the snow, and spotted a different set of footprints.
What shocked Remus is that these footprints were human.
Making his own footprints disappear with a wave of his wand, he followed the previously made set of footprints into the green forest.
Remus paid close attention to the set of boot prints, and was very puzzled to see that the boot marks simply stopped, and they seemed to lead to a smaller, animal paw print that Reus easily recognized as a wolf print.
Suddenly, there was a spot of scarlet in the white snow, which could only be identified as blood. Then, he heard heavy breathing.
He broke through the pine trees, and froze when he saw a beautiful silver wolf laying in the snow. There was a large gash going up its left side, and that was where the red liquid was coming from. Remus slowly approached the creature.
To Remus' surprise yet again, just as he was about to place his hand on the creature, it was no longer a creature. The image flashes, like a faulty hologram projection, and laying in the wolfs' spot was a familiar girl. She had black hair that was matted with blood, and piercing grey eyes that he knew all too well.
"Lacey?" He whispered, and the grey eyes met his before the girl that lie in front of him was no longer a girl, and she was a wolf once more.
The girl was Lacerta Black, his best friend Sirius' twin sister. She was one of Remus' best friends, and she was considered the fifth Marauder.
He was still shocked. Sirius was his best mate, why couldn't he have told him about this? Most of all, why hadn't Lace told him?
Remus sighed as Lacerta flashed in and out between human and animagus, and the boy pointed his wand at her. He had seen this in class, when the witch or wizard couldn't control his or her other form, and he knew the simple countercurse
"Contarius Forma." He said, and a golden colored beam of light shot out of his wand. Lacey flashed to a human form again, and she remained like that.
Lace muttered something ineligible, and then her eyes rolled back into her head as she passed out.
