Imperfect

My first AU fic! This is set in a universe where after children are born, a surgeon takes them and makes them 'perfect'. If the surgeon messes up, he or she hands the baby over to the government where they are either killed or locked up. There's lots of Shules in this, and I might put some of the other characters in. Enjoy!

Prologue

It wasn't Dr. Nettle's first baby to perform the Perfection Surgery on. In fact, this one happened to be his seventh. He had succeeded every time, never having to call in the officer that was posted in the hospital waiting room for that very reason. Yes, there was six infants he had carefully delivered into their waiting parents' arms.

Yet, as he placed the young boy into the machine and pressed the button for Perfection, he had a sinking feeling in his gut. But he went ahead the operation. He was being stupid, the surgery hardly ever failed.

The baby cried out as the machine worked its magic, whirring around him and poking at him with the sharp claws.

The doctor winced and glanced away. He had always hated watching this part.

The surgery took about forty- five minutes in which the claws retracted, and the machine slowly opened revealing the young child, only a few hours old.

Nettles gently picked up the boy and examined him. He looked perfectly alright, and the doctor let out a sigh he didn't know he was holding.

That's when he saw it.

The dark spot on the boy's leg was about as big as a penny. It was obviously a birthmark and the most terrifying thing Dr. Nettles had ever seen.

Breathing was hard for a moment as he tried to process the information. This child would be sentenced to death or growing up in a cage. And there was nothing he could do about it. He half reached for the large handle on one side of the room but stopped.

This baby didn't deserve this. In that split second, he made a choice.

The doctor would tell the boy's parents that their son unfortunately didn't make it. And he would be the one to take the infant home.

With a deep breath, he walked over to his desk and sorted through the papers until he found the child's birth certificate, read it, and pocketed it.

Yes, he was the one who had a son now. Shawn Henry Spencer.

So, that's that prologue! I hoped you liked it! I'm going to bring Juliet into the next chapter!
