The moon beamed in across her room, cutting towards her bed and reflecting off her digital clock that read 12:47 AM. Buttercup was asleep in her bed, snoring loudly against her pillow. She'd had a long day which consisted of beating the living daylights out of a huge dragon that busied itself by destroying a few building in town. It's tail swatted at her and she went flying through an office building, scattering papers everywhere. They'd defeated the monster, but the after affects were tremendous.

Which is why she didn't notice her phone ringing with three already missed calls. Grunting she turned over pulled her covers over her head.

Suddenly her window cracked opened and Butch came tumbling in with an Humph. He stood up and brushed off his black hooded jacket and dark jeans. His green eyes looked up and saw the lump that was Buttercup. He resisted the urge to roll his eyes before smirking. He casually lifted himself off the ground and floated over to where she lay. He continued until he was over the lump and with a yawn dropped himself on her. In response he heard a grunts and received numerous pushes. He leaned closer to where her head was and smiled as he whispered, "Wake up princess"

"If you don't get off me, I'll throw you to Canada" Buttercup mumbled pushing him onto the other side of the bed. She positioned herself so that she was facing him. He was gazing up at her ceiling, his eyes in a trance. "So what's the problem?"

He side glanced at her before sighing and staring back at the white ceiling. "You don't care" he stated in a matter-of-fact voice.

Buttercup nodded. "You're right, but you're going to tell me anyway"

"Gabby broke up with me" he said in a monotone.

"Aw, are you going to cry? Because I can get Bubbles to give you a hug if you like"

Butch's head turned to face her. She wore a deep grin that pushed her cheeks up against her eyes, showing a row of straight white teeth. He rolled his eyes, "the bubbly one…no thanks"

For a moment they both lay in silence, the only sound heard was the humming of the heater. Without thinking, Butch pulled the covers down and swung his legs under them. Buttercup had closed her eyes. He turned to her and wrapped his arm around her waist until she was closer, then knocked his forehead against hers. He closed his eyes and took in the slight lavender smell of her body wash. He'd never admit it out loud to himself (or Buttercup) but she was…cute. She had that beauty that didn't require make up and fancy clothes. Her black hair was always smooth despite all of the fighting she did alongside her sisters.

Her arm made it's way under his arm and up to grip his shoulder. She placed her head between his jaw and shoulder before she said, "I'm sorry Butch"

"It's ok kid" he responded and they both shared a laugh, her breath making light puffs on his neck causing goose bumps to appear on his sin. He sighed and shook his head slightly.

"Just think of it like this," she stated suddenly then looked up at him with those beautiful green eyes clouded from sleep, "at least you still have your best friend"

For a moment he looked at her with a blank expression before it was replaced with a smirk. Yeah, just friends. "You're right, I'll always have my best friend"

Buttercup smiled at him again before resting her head on his chest, where his heart was breaking slowly and painfully. Just friends.
