No – Yami no Yuugi never gave up. No matter what situation, no matter what surprises or adversities Fate had in store for him he was stubbornly pushing forward. From time to time people thought about him as an emotionless, inhuman being – unstable soul which couldn't find its consolation, torn between cold reality and tangled world of higher metaphysics. Sometimes in short moments of consciousness a thought was crossing his mind that he's like a bird in a golden cage – trapped in tight splices of destiny's mystery which he couldn't solve no matter how much effort he put into this. It's hard to unequivocally say if he even lived – how spirit suspended in between shadow of existence and death can be truly real?
Seto Kaiba didn't have to think about such unimportant things. He wasn't interested in this whole philosophically-metaphysical mumble which was only causing chaos in someone's mind and didn't give anything in return. He was a businessman, person with disgustingly logical mind who didn't think that there might be unanswered questions. In Seto's eyes world was black and white, clear and logical, built perfectly by careful, patient architect.
They were like day and night, fire and ice, earth and heaven – so different in their constructions but at the same time compatible like halves of one unit. Yin and Yang, light and darkness. Beings connected by sick pride and their relationship which had no right to be but it stubbornly existed and was triumphant against all the universe's laws and common sense. It delighted, pushed them on the very verge of shaky ecstasy, hurt. They lived, burnt in the arms of the other, erupted with sinful euphoria of completeness – eternal Archrivals. Both knew there wasn't any "happily ever after" for them. They could just exist with dignity – proud just as the other and at the same time so different.
