Chell stumbled outside of the escape elevator. She immediately looked for any trickery, any more of the turrets whose childish voices predicted her death over and over. Finding none, she stepped closer to the field of wheat before her.

SLAM.

She whirled around, to find the door closed. She sighed. Obviously She just wanted her gone. Well, that's all Chell wanted too. She started to turn around, when she heard clanging coming from the elevator shaft.

Chell tensed, expecting the worst. The door popped open revealing…

No.

NO.

It had to be a trick. Why would She give her companion back?

Cautiously Chell stepped forward. It looked like the same cube. There was the burn from the energy ball, the slight scuff when she slipped while climbing it… she couldn't wait any longer. She rushed forward and embraced the cube.

With her companion in her arms, she stepped forward, ready now to face whatever the world could throw at her.

It turns out the world was a good thrower.

A bomb landed right in front of her.

BOOM.

Chell was thrown backwards, hit her head on something, and blacked out.

GLaDOS watched through the cameras as [REDACTED] was thrown backwards into the shed. Her optic shrunk in frustration. Couldn't she just stay gone? What more did she… wait. What were those things headed torwards [REDACTED]? Suddenly GLaDOS slammed the shed door shut and started bringing the lift back down.

Combine.

She knew about that alien race. Since they had taken over after the Resonance Cascade at Black Mesa (Those idiots couldn't do anything right!), GLaDOS left most of her aboveground cameras dormant so she could stay in hiding. She had assumed that, after this long, they would have stopped the fighting. Apparently not.

Ah, she thought, the lift is here.

GLaDOS pulled up a video feed of the Cooperative Testing Initiative. P-Body and ATLAS were playing catch with an Edgeless Safety Cube. She activated the intercom. "Blue, Orange, report to the infirmary immediately. Take care of the patient there for me." Turning around, she picked up the girl gently with one claw and put her on a hospital bed. She then lowered the bed into a Relaxation Vault for transport to the infirmary.

Now all she had to do was wait. Hopefully the girl wasn't even more brain damaged…
