Hey everyone! My name is Liliana and I wrote this quickly and wanted to see what you think! It's a very short oneshot but I hope you like it!
PS I'm not very good with putting things into paragraphs (knowing when to press enter) so sorry about that!
Disclaimer: I do not own Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit
Legolas found her with her knees pulled up to her chest, staring off into the distance.
"Are you alright?" He asked as he sat down beside her. It was a stupid question, he knew, but what else could he say?
"You know, I used to hear stories about people losing their children. I tried to avoid them. They were too horrible. I would wonder-" her voice broke and there were tears in her eyes. She took a shaky breath. "I would wonder how they could-how they could breathe after that. How they could live, go on." A tear fell down her cheek as she hugged her knees closer to her chest. "Others would always tell the people who went through that that it would get better but it doesn't."
She allowed all the tears she had been holding in over the past few weeks flow as she finally looked at him in the eyes. "How do you get this feeling to stop? How do you make it go away...after that? I-I wake up every morning and my heart stops, and for a moment I can't breathe," her voice shook, "because remembering he's gone is like that day over and over and over again. How do you stop feeling that?" She looked at him desperately. "How do you make that gaping hole in your heart go away?" She closed her eyes as more tears fell. "Every single day more of me dies with him. I don't want to wake up because I don't want to remember he's gone." She opened her eyes again. "But you don't get to stop waking up. You don't get to stop living even though you child has."
Her voice was shaking as she dissolved into full out sobbing. Legolas did the only thing he could; he held her. "Why did they have to take him from me?" She repeated again and again as she gripped the fabric of his shirt and cried. Legolas rubbed her back.
"The world is cruel," he responded. "The world is cruel."
He held her and rocked her until she fell asleep. He then picked her up and looked down on her. Her eyes were swollen and red from crying and her cheeks were blotchy. He planted a kiss on her forehead, without even realizing what he was doing.
Her eyes fluttered open and she said his name. "Shhhh," he told her as he laid her on the bed. He made to go when her hand shot out and grabbed his wrist.
"Stay." She whispered.
He nodded as he lay down next to her. For once he didn't think about what was proper or acceptable. For once he only thought about what she needed, nothing else. She needed someone to be there for her, someone she could count on.
"I will always be here for you." He whispered as she laid her head on his chest and slowly drifted off once more.
Love it? Hate it? PLEASE REVIEW! It would mean a lot to me!
