Ok, this is weird, but I wrote a little one-shot about Mark. Yeah, Mark. I know that anybody really likes him, but, come on, he's not so bad. I tried to show his point of view and I hope I did it well. Sorry once again for my English, I'm Spaniard.
Unfair
(the words of a pariah)
All what Mark is able to think is that it's terribly unfair. But, apart from getting indignant, there's nothing else he can do.
Since the very beginning, Mark was the stand-in. Right, D'Jok received him enthusiastically and Micro-ice, despite the jokes and all that stuff, was still his friend. The others accepted them. Even Tia did it. However, somewhere deep in his soul, he could feel Rocket's shadow hovering over him, with his absence filling everything. Mark just wanted to prove that he also had the right to be one more, while the rest were too much worried about bringing the captain back.
That's why he was afraid of Rocket really returning. Because then he would have to go back to the exile of watching Snow Kids play seated in the bench, waiting for somebody to count on him (once, only once). Nevertheless, when D'Jok grabbed him by the collar and pushed him against the wall, Mark knew he deserved it.
But it's still unfair, it's totally unfair that suddenly everybody received Rocket with open armns, like if nothing had happened. But it had happened. It's unfair they deciding to forget the fact that, whereas Rocket was not there, Mark did. It's unfair how they let it pass the way he had hurt Tia, the way he had hit her as a true man should never do. It's unfair that she kept staring at him with an adoring look.
It's not that Mark was into her. Not. Not at all. Well, maybe a little bit. But that is not the point. What matters is that she was so caring and kind that she was the last person he would want to undergo something like that. On the contrary what he had expected, Tia took him in like one teammate and friend more. Mark not only admired Tia because of that, but also because she was brave. A brave woman who had been put through too much.
Finally she and Rocket started over again, altough the man was not the same, he was sure. Mark just wanted Tia to be happy since he liked her very much, but her relationship were collapsing in front of her eyes and she didn't realize it. She was blind. Blind of the love she thought she still felt.
Then Mark knew Nina, and he fell in love with her – a true love, not mere appreciation. He joked with himself thinking on his soft spot for light-eyes blonde girls.
And suddenly everything got complicated, when he believed he had finally found well-being too, Nina was separated from his side.
Then Mark reminded himself he was and would always be a simple substitute.
Substitues don't seem to deserve hapiness.
