Sesshomaru was walking in the front of the group as they headed for the west. The sun was starting to set, but Sesshomaru showed no sign og stopping. Rin was having to almost run to stay right by his side, but she was determined to figure out was was wrong with her lord. Ever since Sesshomaru and Inuyasha's father had appeared before them at the end of the battle for Sounga, Lord Sesshomaru had been lost deep in thought. Rin was not sure how she knew it was his father, but the air and manner he carried himself with was almost the same as what she felt when near her Lord; not to mention looks.
He was sad, and angry. Rin had been with him long enough to be able to tell that much. Jaken had told her all about Inutaisho, and about how he fell in love with a mortal woman and lost his life protecting her. Then to make matters worse he left his most powerful sword to the child of that forbiden affair. She knew the Tenseiga was very powerful in its own way, and could not figure out why Sesshomaru couldn't be happy with that.
Jaken fell back in pace a bit and was muttering happily with AhUn, so Rin decided now was the best chance she would get to try to calm her lord down. Before he killed something unnecessarily. But where did she start?
"Umm, M'lord...?" she started hesitently. He didn't make any gesture other a slight tilt of his head to show he was listening. she decided it was best in this case to just be blunt. it was going to be a one-sided conversation anyways. "Did you love your father?"
Sesshomaru stoped dead in his tracks and looked at Rin. She didn't look up and kept walking. "I can tell you did. A lot more than you want to let on; and I know that you are angry at him for dying at the hands of a mortal before giving you the power you wanted." she saw him resume walking beside her in her peripheral view. She hurried and got to her point. "But you shouldn't hold grudges on those who are no longer alive in body."
"What do you mean by 'in body'," Sesshomaru asked. 'He is listening to me after all', Rin thought.
"Well, he lives in you, M'lord. He's in your mind and heart. When you see your reflection, you have his eyes. He lives inside Inuyasha. And know that I've heard stories and legends about him, he lives in me too. And others who hear stories and legends about him. He'll never die in our hearts. Our heart is the one place someone can truely be immortal."
Sesshomaru remained silent, thinking about all that Rin had said. There were, of course, some flaws in her logic, but she was right. And he no longer felt like ripping something apart.
"You have his heart, too, M'lord. Kind, compassionite, and heroic." Rin said looking up at him with a huge grin. A lightning bug flashed by her head and gained her full attention as she tried to catch it. Sesshomaru wached her run about, taking everything in.
"No Rin. You have his heart." he thought as he watched her release the lightning bug she had caught into the starry night sky.
I Do not own Inuyasha.
