The young Nanako Dojima had always had a connection to the bizarre abnormalities of the world. Somehow it would always revolve around the town of Inaba and the murders which had taken place before. Despite this, she would always keep her sweet demeanor and be a light to her father whenever he was in a dark state.
Even so, some of that changes following their move to Tokyo. They had to do so for her father to investigate the Mental Shutdown cases plaguing the city. For the first few days of life in the new city, it was an absolute hell. 5 years after the Inaba murders, all her friends had gone their separate ways, and going to Tokyo certainly wouldn't get her closer to her friends. Nanako contemplated this on the train to school, as she listened to the latest album by Rise Kujikawa. Perhaps she could catch up with Rise if she ever came into town for a concert, an inevitability considering the size of the city.
However, these thoughts came to a screeching halt. When the train stopped at the Yongyen-Jaya station, she noticed a strange boy get on, taking his place on the crowded train a few feet away from her. The boy looked like he was confused about the way to get to the school, and he seemed the type to keep to himself. She looked back down at the name of the song playing on her phone and thought of what the kid would be up to.
Fast forward a little into the day, and he was a no-show. She wasn't surprised, however; she had learned from the gossip girls that he was a delinquent, sent to the city on probation for what was supposedly an assault charge. She sighed a little, bored out of her mind while her teacher, Ms. Kawakami, went off to go handle something. As she thought of what plan she'd have to go home, Kawakami came into the class, with the kid from the train.
Almost immediately, chitchat about him began. People saying he had a murderous look in his eyes, saying he looks like a tv show villain, and he was somehow connected to another girl in the class, Ann Takamaki. "Okay, quiet down everybody." Kawakami stated, sounding a little annoyed of how late the kid was. He introduced himself as Ren Amamiya, and took a seat in the last open one, the one right in front of Nanako.
Looking at his back, she thought of everything said about him and compared it to the boy in front of him. Everyone said Ren was things that would lead one to believe he was a one-dimensional villian who was evil for the hell of it. But, the boy sitting in front of her looked to be none of that. Ren looked like just a normal kid to her, someone who was shy and didn't trust anyone in this new environment. Come to think of it, Ren reminded her of Narukami, her "Big Bro" who lived with her and her dad while the Inaba Murders were happening, and the way she met all those interesting people, like Rise or the Detective Prince Naoto Shirogane. She couldn't discern much from this boy Ren, but one thing was for certain. With him in the picture, this next year is going to be a whole world's more interesting. As she would learn later, she would be right, in the figurative and literal sense.
(A/N: This is a test to see if people have any interest in this AU idea. If the people want it I'll make more. Hope you guys find this concept interesting enough to want to see more!)
