"HOW DARE YOU!" Jennifer Smithe screeched.
"HOW DARE I?" Helen Clearwater shrieked back. "HOW DARE YOU!"
"Ladies! Ladies! Please!" Professor Herbert Beery cried, his words falling on deaf ears.
He had wanted so much to start a theater club at Hogwarts, ever since he was a schoolboy himself. Finally, Headmaster Dippet granted him the opportunity. He had it all perfectly planned out. When he had a decent sign-up from the students of the school (mostly female) he had decided on The Fountain of Fair Fortune. It was a gripping tale of a fountain that once a year granted any wish and starred three maidens and a knight. A perfect ratio for the students who had wanted to be in this club.
Or so he thought.
How was he, a Professor, to know when he cast Melvin Simmons and Helen Clearwater in the roles of Sir Luckless and Amata respectively, that Melvin was dating Jennifer Smithe, whom he had cast as Altheda?
At first, the two girls claimed no ill will.
It was just a play after all.
Oh… How wrong he was.
Why, oh why did teenagers have to be so… well… pardon the word… dramatic?
Throughout the rehearsals, the final kiss between Sir Luckless and Amata had grown increasingly passionate. Melvin claimed he was just getting into the part, and Jennifer believed him… until now.
Melvin and Helen were found snogging behind the curtain and were caught by Jennifer. This led to the screaming match.
Herbert jumped into action when the two girls began scratching and clawing at each other.
"ENOUGH!" He bellowed. "Don't fight."
"You're absolutely right, Professor," said Jennifer. "We won't fight… we'll duel!"
"Challenge accepted!" Helen replied, drawing her wand.
"NOOO!" Herbert cried, ducking under a prop as spells zipped left and right.
The rest of the cast had gone into betting on who would win and how long it would take for them to realize the real jerk and gang up on Melvin.
Oy… theater kids.
"LACARNUM INFLAMARI!" Helen screeched.
Jennifer dove to the ground and the spell caught the curtain where the snogging occurred on fire. Before anything could be done, the flames licked the edge of the set, catching that on fire as well. The props, the half-painted scenery, everything caught onto the flames. Including, the table Herbert was hiding under. He barely managed to salvage the scripts before they, too, were demolished.
The doors to the Great Hall opened and Professor Dumbledore strode in. With a flick of his wand, a rain cloud formed over the stage and doused the chaos and the anger between the two girls.
"Hello, Herbert," he said cheerily as if nothing were wrong. "How is the rehearsal going?"
Herbert Beery giggled airily before slumping into a faint.
Never mix magic, teenagers, and theater.
